Photo Gallery: Brighton Varsity Wrestling Pins Hartland to Win

The Bulldogs defeated the Eagles 29-23 Wednesday night.

After a nail-biting meet, the continued its winning streak Wednesday night and defeated the Hartland Eagles 29-23 for the first time in 10 years.

The Bulldogs led the first several matches 16-0 when Hartland wrestler Matt Ostermiller pinned Chris Raby from Brighton, gaining the Eagles six points. Hartland wrestler Nate Hughes then put the Eagles in the lead 17-16.

Brighton Coach Sam Amine said there were really two champions tonight, as both schools did excellent.

"What a hard fought match," Amine said. "I give my hat off to both programs. We had 14 excellent matches, as you can tell, we only had one pin each. It was incredible. It was just hard-nosed wrestling. Both kids really went at it for their programs and every time on the mat, just gave everything they had. That's the way high school wrestling should be."

The turning point came for Brighton after C.J. Brish tied the two teams 23-23.

Brighton's final wrestler Evan Hoshaw ended the night in victory after pinning Marcus Lopez from Hartland.

"We've wrestled nine ranked teams and beat every one of them," Amine said. "We knew this was really going to be the test tonight."

The win Wednesday night advances the Bulldogs' record to 33-0.
