Video: Roller Figure Skating Team Prepares for Competition Season

Roller figure skating is diverse, appealing to adults, teenagers and children. The sport features competitions in beginner classes all the way to world championships.

Roller figure skating championships include events just like ice skating and team members compete as individuals and in precision team skating. Each event is judged by a team of judges who award points on content, such as jumps and spins, and performance.

The team is fed from skaters from three different roller rinks: Rollerama's Skating Club, Rollhaven in Flint and the in Canton. Practices are held at all three rinks.

The team's season runs from September through August, with competitions beginning in April. The season ends with the National Championship which is held in August.

Team Skate won third place in the 2011 National Junior Championship. Team members also participated in the Thanksgiving Day Parade in Detroit this past November.
