BHS Gymnastics team heads to states

The gymnastics team has placed well in all of their meets and having their highest record ever this year.

The gymnastics team has placed well in all of their meets and having their highest record ever this year. The captains Emily Gucciardo, Taylor Harmon and Sydney Zack believe that this has a lot to do with team chemistry.

“We all work really well together. We have done better this year than last year because of how close the whole team is. The team is really fun and there is good team dynamic. We are all good friends and are close. Losing some of the top girls from last year made the team nervous but we have done so well that it has really been a great season for us so far,” Harmon said.

In their last two meets they ended up doing well. In the Canton invitational they were sixth out of sixteen and at the Hartland Invitational the team was third out of eighteen. The team also beat Farmington on January thirty first. Farmington is ranked second in the division so this is a very good win. The team this year is ranked fourth in their division out of ten and the teams record is 143.525. This is a very good score and is the highest record the Brighton gymnastics team has ever had.

“I think we are doing really well this year. I am very proud of how we are ranked in our division and also of our record. It is so great that we have done so well this year,” Gucciardo said.

The team is becoming more of a family and not just with their own teammates. According to the captains they practice in the same gym as their old rivals; Howell. Now because of this it has brought the teams together into one tight group. Gucciardo said that whenever the teams are both at the same meet each team supports one another whenever each team is performing a skill. Having the extra support has helped with our record this year and with making great new friends Gucciardo said.

“Regional and States are very exciting and I am hoping we do well,” Harmon said.

Next for the team coming up for the team is regional and states. Regional will be on March second at Mason High School. States will be on March eighth and ninth at Canton High School.  The eighth is for team finals and the ninth is for individual finals. To make it to state the individual has to be in the top ten nad if the team to got o states has to be in the top three. The gymnastics team is hoping do well in both.

With the team doing well at the bigger meets and keeping their record high it looks like it will end up being a great season for the gymnastics team.
