Brighton-Hartland Team Set Out to Raise Funds for St. Joseph Mercy Cancer Center

Dennis Cuffe, a Kidney Cancer survivor, will ride his bike from St. Joseph Mercy Cancer Center in Brighton to Cape Coral, FL to raise money for the hospital that treated him.

Just three months after surgery for Renal Cell Carcinoma (Kidney Cancer), Brighton resident Dennis Cuffe will make a 1,300 mile journey from Brighton to Cape Coral, FL - on his bike.

Cuffe, who received treatment at St. Joseph Mercy Cancer Center in Brighton, decided to make the trip to raise money for the hospital and to inspire others who are fighting the battle with cancer.

The journey will take Cuffe anywhere from two weeks to a month, Cuffe said, as he plans to ride about 100 miles per day.

Cuffe's girlfriend, Susan Parrish of Hartland, will be handling all of the fundraising while he is gone. Together, they have raised about $1,000 for the cause already. Parrish said her personal goal is $8,000.

Cuffe began the trip in the early hours on Saturday morning surrounded by his family members.
