Video: Brighton Gives Warm Welcome to Polar Plunge

The Polar Plunge to benefit the Special Olympics of Michigan was held at Brighton High School on Sunday.

On Sunday, 99 people dressed in all sorts of costumes, ran down a hill to plunge into the cold waters of the lake behind .

There were penguins, men dressed as old women, Popeye the Sailor Man, a tooth fairy and even Captain Morgan got a little wet for the cause.

Together, the group raised more than $24,000 for the Special Olympics of Michigan. In order to become a Polar Plunger, a person must raise a minimum of $75.

The Brighton Roller Dollz Roller Derby team received a special shout out, as they had more than 25 plungers that raised about $4,000 for the organization.

This was the first year the popular event was held in Brighton. It was previously hosted at Zukey Lake Tavern in Pinckney.
