Walk a Mile in Her Shoes Set for Saturday

Men are encouraged to wear high heels for LACASA's annual event at the Tanger Outlet Center in Howell.

Shoppers at the Tanger Outlet Center in Howell will be treated to a long parade of hairy legs stuffed into high heels this Saturday at LACASA's sixth annual Walk a Mile in Her Shoes community fundraiser.

Last year, more than 150 men and boys of all ages gathered clad in women's footwear and literally walked a mile, not only to raise money that supports the free services that LACASA offers to local survivors of sexual abuse and assault, but also to be part of a national movement to stop rape, sexual assault and gender violence. The agency hopes to raise at least $16,000 from this year's event.

“We’d love to see even more courageous men and boys stand up and stand out by walking individually or putting together a team and helping us get the word out about Walk a Mile in Her Shoes and why it’s so important to our community,” said Bobette Schrandt, Executive Director of LACASA.

Sergeant Mark Thompson of the participated last year for the first time, and agreed to get a pedicure before the walk. He had each toenail painted a different color and even won an award for best pedicure.

“It was a great experience. There were men of all ages there—young and old. It's a really great event," said Thompson. "LACASA does so much for the community, it's important to come out and support them.”
