Washtenaw Community College Art Faculty To Display Wide Range Of Artistic Work

“A Fall Collection” To Debut Oct. 21 At WCC’s GalleryOne

WHAT: After a ten-year hiatus – members of the Washtenaw Community College art faculty [a component of the Humanities department] will have their personal works of art on display at GalleryOne on the WCC campus.

The exhibition titled, “A Fall Collection,” will include artwork by each member of the WCC art faculty – and will represent their personal artistic perspectives in a variety of mediums, forms and disciplines.

“We are simply delighted to host this long-awaited exhibition to showcase the talents of our WCC art faculty,” said Anne Rubin, director of GalleryOne. “It’s been 10-years since our esteemed faculty members shared their collective talent,” Rubin said. “This exhibition will allow a multitude of audiences to see their creative work – and we encourage WCC art students, our entire student body, high school art students/teachers and the general public to come and see this remarkable work.”

An added highlight [right before the exhibition’s closing reception] will be the visit by Scott Schultheis, an admissions representative of the renowned Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts [PAFA]. Schultheis has studied at PAFA and is an accomplished painter. During his visit to WCC, Schultheis will review portfolios of WCC art students.

“It is quite an honor to host Mr. Schultheis from the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts,” said Nemanja Rosic, WCC art faculty member. “By coming from Philadelphia to WCC, he is expressing interest in our students and is generously donating his time to review their artwork. His visit provides an opportunity for our students to consider a potential transfer to a major art academy program as they continue on their educational path.”

WHEN/WHERE: Monday, Oct. 21 through Friday, Oct. 25 at GalleryOne. The closing reception will be from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 25 at GalleryOne. The closing reception is open to the public.

WHY: “This exhibition gives us the forum to expand the exposure for our art and design classes” said Allison Fournier, chair of the WCC Humanities department. “Our students come to WCC with innate talent and leave with a solid foundation in the arts,” said Fournier. “They also, in a very affordable manner, are able to start building their portfolio. Many of our graduates go on to study at top-ranked universities and specialized art schools with great success.”

GALLERYONE: Washtenaw Community College’s GalleryOne – is located on the first floor of the Washtenaw Community College Student Center Building. Hours are Monday and Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Wednesday and Thursday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Friday from 10 a.m. to noon.
