The bond money cannot be spent towards teachers salary.
Sherry Spehar June 14, 2013 at 10:15 pm
I get that, J. Gilleylen. However, that is not my point.
Sherry Spehar June 14, 2013 at 10:20 pm
Way too much was requested for the bond.Look at the wasteful spending.

Enjoy your retirement. You made a great impact on the students you taught and made science real andRead More meaningful. It was a joy working with you on curriculum projects that brought hands on approaches into the classroom . Baiba Jensen

Knew without reading that they are Republicans. Hey, this is America, you don't need a stinkingRead More foreign language, amirite?

Laurie, I totally agree with you. My son had Mrs. Johnson last yr and she is amazing. Thank you Mrs.Read More Johnson for all you do for our kids at Hilton. Fran

You can fool some of the people all of the time....

I am absolutely beside myself that this is how the community I live in reacts in a time ofRead More difficulty. So much selfishness and narcassism.I am a very proud member of this community and so proud to say both my children are graduates of BAS. After what I have read here I am so glad my children are graduated. One has now successfully graduated from college and is working and the other, a very sucessful student at the University of Michigan. Please do not criticize the BAS education...for the most part, I have observed our teachers to be amazing and through all of this for years now, have never taken the adult politics out on their students. We are so fortunate! I was a very active member of BAS for many years and I will tell the majority of you what I used to tell my parents. Unless you want to get on board, get involved and make a difference, please do not use this forum or any other forum as your personal "b" center. No one is listening. And by the way...Dr. Gray, our family is thrilled you are staying! You certainly made a personal difference in one of my children's lives (my other son was already graduated) and I will always remember this! Best of luck to Dr. Gray, a man of character and integrity, our school district and our community!

Constructive suggestions: Centralize all hiring, bus driving, maintanence, technology, and athletics atRead More the county level. The same contract and pay scale for all who are union, better bus routes and times so that parents dont need to drive their children to school, and the spread the use of the athletic fields through out the county. This will end costly duplication of jobs and give a better use for our tax dollars.

The millage that was voted in recently brought the total up to 7 mils. You pay 7 mils tax onRead More capital improvement bonds. Has nothing to do with accumulated operating debt.

Unfortunately I have seen this board in action many times . There needs to be a fix in my eyes .Read More There needs to be more public interest not just mainly the same people at every meeting. Remember the kids are watching both sides what happens and what is done about it .They are not dummies. There is a lot at stake here, survival of Brighton area Schools ,$88.5 Million dollars of debt taxpayers will be paying for over the next 33 years no matter what happens not to mention the proper education of the future adults of our society .this needs brought under control before its too late.

But people let,s not forget we still have great teachers which produce great grades. So lets notRead More make the situation worse by invoking school of choice and leaving which would produce even more stress on B.A.S. This can be fixed . B.A.S can and will come back from this.

The disrespect some members of this current board show for the community and for each other isRead More reprehensible and embarrassing. Civility and professionalism apparently departed with the departure of some of our former members. Oh, how I miss the days when Mrs. Leach ran a solid, orderly, productive meeting (take a lesson, Mr. Vieau) and Mr. Bill R. Anderson and Mr. Rassell were part of the solution, instead of being part of the problem. I saw a comment somewhere inviting the community to attend tonights board meeting (7pm, BECC boardroom) and to wear WHiTE to show support for Dr. Gray and to send a message that there are several board members who, by their actions and words, need to resign. Good idea! That message needs to be sent loud and clear. While I realize that "you get what you pay for", and these embarrassments were elected by our apathetic voter turnout, we need to realize when we've made a mistake, and strive to cut our losses. And I say we, because I'm ashamed to admit to being one of the lesser informed voters who bought what one or more of them were selling. At least I voted, but I wish I could go back to 2011 and change my vote!
Kate April 18, 2013 at 07:19 pm
Dr. Gray is classy. Because anyone who has been keeping up with the board drama in person/in theRead More paper knows how ridiculous/stressful it must be to work with that board.
The Gizmobird April 18, 2013 at 08:27 pm
Dr. Gray is spot on. In all of his public dealings with this Board he has always taken the high roadRead More ,and tried to inform and point out the moral approach that should be applied. This board is in disarray and this is the result !
The Gizmobird April 19, 2013 at 10:56 pm
Unfortunately you are absolutely correct . The down side is when they take out someone who is good.
Kate April 19, 2013 at 11:06 pm
I'm hearing you. It's a tough call, isn't it. Let's hope something *good* happens soon.

When we can't pay our teachers, why are we buying ipods for classrooms? Where are our priorities? IRead More am the parent of a learning disabled child who was promised technology to help him and guess what.... It never shows up! The district is broke and it is things like this that makes it that the special ed kids can't get what they need. I am saddened that they would even use the premise that they are helping LD kids with this technology when that is not the case.
Kenneth Stahl April 12, 2013 at 03:16 am
Mrs. Tompkins, The technology is all part of the bond passed in May. The programs currentlyRead More running are pilot programs designed to determine what we will implement in the coming year to our technical programs. The money cannot be spent on teachers as the bond is strictly for buildings and technology. You will see these programs in the learning disabled programs as we implement the technology. It will take the summer and into next year to be put in place in most areas. Ken
