No injuries were reported after a teen driver drove his car off the road after being distracted by his phone.
A 16-year-old Brighton resident drove his car off the road after being distracted while attempting to change a song on his phone, according to a report from the Michigan State Police- Brighton Post. Police say on April 10, the driver was travelling east on Victor Street around 7:45 p.m. when he drove over a curb, crashed through a fence and drove into a water-filled swamp area. No injuries were reported and Michigan State Police were assisted by Green Oak Township Police Department and Livingston County EMS.

A Howell man was killed in a vehicle crash on US-23 in Hartland Township on Sunday afternoon after crashing into a median fence while accelerating onto the highway. The driver, Martin Morse, 43, of Howell, died at the scene due to injuries sustained in the crash, according to a press release from the Michigan State Police—Brighton Post. Preliminary investigation by the police indicates the driver excessively accelerated from M-59 onto the north bound on ramp to north bound US-23 where he lost control of his vehicle while entering the traffic lanes of north bound US-23. Federal housing officials have released additional information on the searches of the Brighton and Livonia offices in February.
The Federal Home Loan Mortgage Corporation, or Freddie Mac, unsealed documents Monday that shed some light onto why the FBI raided Elias Real Estate and Financial Services at both its Brighton and Livonia locations in February. The testing of sirens by the Brighton Area Fire Authority will take place in Genoa Township, City of Brighton, and Brighton Township on Saturday, April 13 at noon, according to a press release.. This is an additional test beyond the typical test conducted on the first Saturday of every month. The test is purely precautionary and working to ensure the sirens are fully operational during this peak severe weather season. The Fire Authority would ask that citizens take time to review standard tornado safety and review shelter locations, emergency preparedness, and response when a tornado siren is activated in a true emergency. Two “begging” suspects claiming to be veterans with disabilities were found to be in possession of crack cocaine and were arrested in the parking lot of the Hartland Target, according to a report from the Livingston County Sheriff’s Department. On April 7, police responded to a 911 call around 4 p.m. at the Hartland Kroger’s regarding a possible welfare check scam. Police say they were given information for a suspect driving a car with a disabled vet license plate. The Oakland County Circuit Court case has been adjourned until the evaluation is conducted.
An independent psychiatric evaluation will be conducted on the man accused of a string of 24 shootings along I-96 in October, according to an article in the Observer & Eccentric. The article states that Raulie Wayne Casteel's attorney is arranging the evaluation, postponing Thursday's pre-trial hearing until the evaluation is complete. Court will reconvene on May 30. According to the Observer & Eccentric, a state forensic psychological exam conducted earlier revealed that Casteel was competent to stand trial but suffers from delusional disorder. A 20-year-old male was seen running out of the Hartland Meijer without paying for a case of beer before tripping in the parking lot and dropping his cell phone and the alcohol. Police say on March 30, a store employee witnessed three males walking toward the exit when one of the suspects ran past her carrying a case of Bud Light beer. The man was barefooted, according to the report, and after tripping in the parking lot, the store employee recovered the suspect’s dropped cell phone. The man is accused of pulling a gun on the owner of the Brighton restaurant and demanding money in 2010.
The man accused of attempting to rob the Lil' Chef restaurant in 2010 is now set to head to trial, according to an article in the Press & Argus. Kevin Michael Clark, 43, of Lansing, waived a probable cause hearing Wednesday in court, sending the case to trial, the article states. The trial date has yet to be set. Clark is the suspect in an attempted armed robbery in December of 2010. Brighton Police Chief Thomas Wightman told Patch in 2010 that the suspect entered the restaurant about 3 p.m. on a Monday, sat down and ordered lunch. The thefts have occurred in Hartland, Howell, Brighton and Genoa townships
The Livingston County Sheriff’s office is investigating several thefts of catalytic converters in Hartland, Howell, Brighton and Genoa townships. The photo at right was taken from a Brighton Township storage facility where the suspect removed a catalytic converter from a parked car. Detectives believe that this vehicle could be connected to multiple thefts of catalytic converters in the Livingston County area. The suspect vehicle appears to be a Gold Chrysler Cirrus between the model years of 1996 and 2000.
