Jordan Amine and Aaron Calderon are Brighton High School's 'most winningest' wrestlers.
Brighton High School Seniors Jordan Amine and Aaron Calderon will soon trade up their familiar black and orange wrestling singlets to maize and blue as the two head to the University of Michigan to compete in the fall. "It's always been a dream for me to go to the University of Michigan, but to be honest, I didn't know that they were interested in me as a wrestler, but when I found out, I was pretty excited," Aaron said. The two are Brighton High School's 'most winningest' wrestlers, according to Coach Sam Amine, Jordan's father. Amine said that both students have 3.5 grade point averages (GPAs) and were academic all-staters. Bulldogs named to the Division 1 all-state team.
In addition to helping their team defend its state title, five Bulldogs icers were named to the Division 1 all-state team by the Michigan High School Hockey Coaches Association. The coaches met on Saturday at Compuware Arena before the MHSAA state finals began. The Brighton all-staters are: Hartland and Pinckney also had two players each that made the Division 2 team.

The Lady Bulldogs will advance to Regionials this weekend.
The Brighton Varsity Cheer came in third place at District competition last weekend. Hartland took first place and Livonia Stevenson came in second. Novi came in fourth place at the competition. The Lady Bulldogs will advance to Regionals this weekend. "We are so excited for Regionals," said Coach Christina Wilson. "We have some really intense practices scheduled to prepare. We have done extra film sessions, and gotten really into detail to take us to the next level. The girls are really driven and hard working. Their motivation level right now is through the roof!"

Bulldogs Senior Jordan Amine, Sophomore Nick Brish, Senior Aaron Calderon, senior Ryan Foley, Sophomore Daniel McCarthy, Sophomore Jose Ramos and Senior Scott Ries each won for Brighton The Bulldogs will compete for the Regional Semifinal Feb. 13 at Hartland High School. Submitted by Coach Jeff Street The Brighton Girls Varsity Ski Team took first place with 43 points in a make-up meet Monday night for the two rain-outs last week. Scoring for the Bulldogs were Freshman Lilia Staszel, who came in 5th place; Freshman Jenna Sica, who came in 6th place; Freshman Veronica Ripper, who came in 7th palce and Junior Madison Kraning, who came in 25th place. The Boys Varsity Ski Team came in second place with 53 points. Leading the Bulldogs were Senior Matt Shelton, who came in third place; Junior Jordan Black, who came in 10th place; Senior Colin Farquhar, who came in 18th place and Senior Chris Letteer, who came in 19th place. Submitted by Coach Jeff Street The Brighton Girls Ski Team again took first place in the Jan. 25 GS Race at Mt Brighton with a team total of 39 points. Freshman Lilia Staszel placed first, Jenna Sica 2nd and a strong showing from Junior Madison Kraning taking 18th place. The Brighton Boys Ski Team placed third with 54 points, led by Seniors Chris Monroe in third place and Matt Shelton in 11th. Both teams are progressing nicely to this point. Our team goal is to peak at Regionals. The Girls Varsity Ski Team took first place out of nine teams on Jan. 22 with 36 points. Brighton deafeated Milford last night 105-65 Thursday night. The standout swimmer was Brighton High School Junior Adrian Deychakiwsky. The Brighton Varsity Wrestling team went 2-0 at Howell in KLAA Competition on Wednesday night. Brighton defeated Howell 56-18 and Grand Blanc 52-18. The Bulldog's record advances to 25-2 on the season and 4-0 in KLAA Competition. Seniors Scott Ries, Ryan Foley, Jordan Amine, Aaron Calderon; Sophomores Kyle Bohnsack, Jose Ramos, Beau Mourer, Nick Brish and Freshman Brendan Klaus all went 2-0 for the night. The Brighton Varsity Girls Basketball team defeated Milford 59-26 on Tuesday. Both the Junior Varsity and Freshman teams won their games against Milford 44-17 and 39-17, respectively. The Brighton Varsity Wrestling team defeated Milford 66-10 and Pinckney 66-9 in its first KLAA League match at home on Wednesday night. The home match was Senior Night for the Varsity Bulldogs. Seniors Scott Ries, Jordan Salmon, Ryan Foley, Jordan Amine and last year's state champion Aaron Calderon all went 2-0. "It was both exciting and sad - it was the seniors' last night wrestling in the Brighton gym," Coach Sam Amine said. The Bulldogs are now 19-2. Their next match is Saturday at Swartz Creek.
