The Brighton High School DECA Club and School Store collected toys and money to give to local needy families this holiday season.

Brighton High School DECA Club members and the Peddler's Paw school store collected Toys for Tots monetary donations as well as new, unopened toys under the supervision of Marketing Teacher Pete O'Neill. Through fundraising efforts, they collected more than $700 and more than 400 toys for Livingston County kids this holiday season. The high school has been doing this for more than 20 years. DECA prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs in marketing, finance, hospitality and management in high schools and colleges across the globe. The Buckley Jolley Real Estate Team loaned their community truck to transport the gifts. Brighton Kiwanis member J. The Brighton Kiwanis Club and City of Brighton decorated downtown Brighton with American Flags in honor of Veterans Day.
Members of the Brighton Kiwanis Club joined Brighton DDA and Community Development Director Matt Modrack to line Main Street in red, white and blue in honor of Veterans Day. The group installed American Flags on light posts on both sides of the street early Friday morning.

Five students received engraved personal dictionaries from the Brighton Kiwanis Club.
The 2012 Brighton Kiwanis Spelling Bee winners were announced at the last summer Gazebo concert on Aug. 26 in downtown Brighton. The students, now entering sixth grade, received personal dictionaries engraved with their names from Brighton Kiwanis President Suzanne Richardson. The 15th annual Brighton Kiwanis Spelling Bee was held in May and was open to all fifth graders who attend Maltby Intermediate School. A student from each fifth grade class is a contestant in the spelling bee. According to Maltby Principal Scott Brenner, the Spelling Bee was broadcasted live throughout the school. Kiwanis members spent the summer reading to children inside the Imagination Station.
Brighton Kiwanis finished its last day of summer reading at Brighton Imagination Station Tuesday morning. The Kiwanis' Terrific Tuesdays were very popular this summer, according to President Suzanne Richardson. Each week, Kiwanis members would sit down and read library books to a group of children. Terrific Tuesdays are over for the season as children get ready to go back to school. They will start up again next year.

Five Maltby Intermediate School students will receive dictionaries engraved with their names.
Five Maltby Intermediate School fifth-graders will receive engraved dictionaries for spelling their way into the top five spots in the Brighton Kiwanis Club's 12th Annual Spelling Bee. The event featured 28 fifth grade finalists. The top five will receive personalized dictionaries with their names engraved on them. The dictionaries will be presented to the students at one of the Kiwanis' summer concert series in the gazebo at Mill Pond Park.
