Nicole Krawcke Says Goodbye to Brighton Patch

Brighton editor to cover Plymouth-Canton area.

Change is never never easy - after serving as Brighton Patch editor for 1 1/2 years, I'm moving on to cover news and events for Plymouth-Canton Patch. My new role begins Monday. No, this is not an April Fool's joke. I'm really sad to say goodbye to this wonderful community that I've immersed myself in uncovering the faces, places and the stories that makes this community special. I'm no stranger to the Plymouth-Canton community, I was covering stories there long before I ever came to Brighton. However, returning will be bittersweet.  Somewhere in between covering the arrival of twisted World Trade Center piece for the 9/11 Memorial at Fire Station 31 and the 8-year-old who lobbied state lawmakers after seeing a documentary about the …

Submit Your Pic for Brighton Patch's New Facebook Cover Photo

Have a great photo, painting or drawing that you think will be a perfect cover photo to illustrate the change in season from winter to spring for our Facebook page? Upload it now.

With the start of the new season, it's a great time to freshen up the Brighton Patch Facebook page cover photo — and we're looking for your help. From now until Friday, March 22, we'll be accepting submissions for a cover photo — it could be a recent photograph, something from the archives, a painting or a drawing. For a while now, the cover photo is of ducks on the ice covered Mill Pond. Hopefully the snow and ice will soon melt, and flowers will begin to poke through the ground. Show us your favorite photo of the change in seasons in the Brighton area. Your submission can be from anywhere in Brighton, of a business, sports team, in a neighborhood or along the many area lakes.  There's no age requirement to submit: You just have to be a …

From the Editor

Happy Birthday Brighton Patch

Brighton Patch celebrates its second birthday Dec. 20.

Another year has flown by and Brighton Patch is celebrating its second birthday since the site was launched in 2010. It's been more than a year since I moved to Brighton and became its second editor and it's hard to believe how much Brighton Patch has grown in that time. Some of my greatest moments in 2012 were covering stories like the Howell Balloon Festival from the air and the on the track at the Brighton Roller Dollz Christmas bout. But most of all, I've enjoyed getting to know so many wonderful and supportive people in the Brighton community. Last year, we highlighted all the great stories of 2011. This year, here's a look back at some of the very first stories published on Brighton Patch: I've had such a great time in Brighton this …

Patch Readers Respond to Livingston County Oddities

Brighton and Hartland Patch readers share their thoughts on strange lights in the night sky and reasons for radio static.

Admit it - we've all seen or heard strange things that we can't always rationalize. So Brighton and Hartland Patch decided to turn the question over to our readers when we heard about strange parallel flickering, floating lights over Howell on Wednesday night. Hartland Patch Facebook user Amy Biehn took the practical approach. "Last year we saw bunches of them around the Hartland area," she said. "They were clearly lanterns. Of course, I did not see these lights last night." John Angelo Moraitis had a different idea. "Aliens, defiantly Aliens," he wrote. Brighton Patch Facebook users believed the lights …
