Coach's Corner: Brighton Girls Basketball Scores

Coach Paul Ash submits lady bulldogs scores from last week.

Submitted by Coach Paul Ash Here are the scores from this past weekend's games at the Petoskey Tournament (also includes scores from Saginaw Heritage): Varsity On Friday, Nov. 30, Brighton Bulldogs triumphed over Marquette in overtime, 54-50 in the Petoskey Tournament Semi-Final Game. Brighton Junior Natalie Peterson lead Brighton with 18 points while Brighton Sophomore Jessica Savage added 10 points. On Saturday, Dec. 1, Brighton fell to St. Ignance at the Petoskey Tournament Championship game, 55-41. Brighton Junior Kelsey VanCamp lead Brighton with 11 points while Junior Natalie Peterson added 10 points. Junior Varsity On Saturday, Nov. 28, Brighton defeated Saginaw Heritage 77-53. On Friday Nov. 30, Brighton fell to Marquette 33-52 …

Coach's Corner: Brighton Varsity Soccer Ties Ann Arbor Huron, Defeats Howell

Bulldogs work hard in back-to-back games.

-Submitted by Coach Rob Williams Brighton tied Ann Arbor Huron Monday 1-1 in an extremely physical, hard-fought game. Brighton again outshot their opponent, Ann Arbor Huron, 12-5. Goalie Jack Grant made one save for Brighton. Senior Forrest Chong scored from a Jordan Messick free kick in the 71st minute after Huron went ahead in the 70th minute. On Tuesday, Brighton played its fifth game in seven days and beat Howell 3-0.  Brighton outshot Howell 23-2 and Brighton’s Goal Keeper Jack Grant recorded his fifth shutout of the season. Seniors Forrest Chong and Jordan Messick each had a goal and an assist, with Senior Logan Bush also scoring for Brighton.  Brighton is 5-0-3 overall and 3-0-0 in KLAA play.  Brighton’s next game is Thursday at …

Coach's Corner: Brighton Soccer Defeats Milford

The Bulldogs won their game Tuesday night 5-1.

-Submitted by Coach Rob Williams Brighton beat Milford 5-1 in KLAA Conference play Tuesday night.  Brighton High School Senior Forrest Chong scored 2 goals along with an assist. Senior Jordan Messick had a goal and an assist. Senior Aaron Meredith and Junior Austin Wilks scored the other goals for Brighton. Brighton outshot Milford 20-2 and improves to 2-0-2 overall, and 1-0-0 in KLAA play. The next game is Thursday at Pinckney.

Coach's Corner: Brighton Soccer Outshoots Novi for a Win

Brighton Bulldogs defeated Novi 4-1.

Submitted by Coach Rob Williams The Brighton Bulldogs defeated the Novi Wildcats 4-1 during their game Wednesday.  Brighton outshot Novi 16-1 and improves to 1 Win – 0 Losses – 2 Ties on the season. Senior Forest Chong scored two goals for the Bulldogs. Other scorers were Seniors Chase Neilson and Aaron Meredith. After tying Brother Rice and Saline while out-shooting both teams, Brighton got on the board and had a great team effort.  Next game is next Tuesday at Milford to open KLAA Conference play.

Bulldogs Lady Golfers Win Traverse City Tourney, Home Invite

Brighton High School Junior Hannah Pietila finished in first place as the invite medalist.

- Submitted by Coach Paul Parsell The Brighton Girls Golf team won a 34 team, two day tournament in Traverse City the week of Aug. 20. The team shot a 312 on the first day and a 334 on the second day, for a two day total of 646, to clinch first place by 9 strokes over Farmington Hills Mercy. The Brighton Girls Golf team also finished first in their own Invite, the Coach Miller Invite on Monday, Aug. 27, with a team score of 312. Junior Hannah Pietila finished in first place as the invite medalist with a 69 and Freshman Jennica Long shot a 77 for a sixth place finish.

Coach's Corner: Brighton Soccer Ties Saline

The Bulldogs out-shot Saline, but were unable to score a goal.

- Submitted by Coach Rob Williams The Brighton Varsity Soccer team tied Saline 0-0 at Sloan Field on Saturday. The Bulldogs out-shot Saline 7-2, but were unable to find the back of the net. This takes Brighton’s record to 0 wins – 0 losses – 2 ties. The next game is Wednesday at Novi High School.

Coach's Corner: Brighton Varsity Softball Go 2-1 in Weekend Tournament

The Bulldogs advance their overall season record to 9-5.

- Submitted by Rob Barr Brighton High School Varsity Softball went 2-1 at the Frankenmuth Tournament on Saturday. Brighton defeated Pine River 11-5 in the first game. Brighton scored in the top of the first inning when junior Katelyn Scrivano hit up the middle. The lead disolved as the Bucks scored two points in the bottom of the first inning. It wasn't till the fourth inning when Scrivano and senior Sarah Goodwin both recorded hits and were drove in by sophomores Lindey Myers and Meghan Pierce that Bulldogs recaptured the lead that they would not relinquish. Senior Olivia Silvestri pitched for Brighton, giving up five hits and recording six strikeouts. Junior Kendall Gaiss went 3-4 with two doubles and two runs batted in (RBI).   The …

Coach's Corner: Brighton Varsity Softball Sweeps Fowlerville

The Bulldogs take home a win before taking a time out for spring break.

- Submitted by Coach Rob Barr The Bulldogs Varsity Softball Team played well Wednesday night, sweeping a pair of games against Fowlerville. The first game was a complete team win offensively and defensively with the final score 12-6. We had 12 runs on 19 hits. Leading the team were senior Olivia Silvestri, who went 4-4 with a double and triple while pitching a three hit game with six strikeouts. Senior Jordin Meadows and Kumi Lelei Amituanai both went 4-4 as well. Defensively, sophomore Meghan Pierce and junior Marissa Isaac were outstanding. The second game, which ended with a Bulldog win at 6-1, saw two kids break out of hitting slumps. Brighton junior Kendall Gaiss went 3-4 while freshman Blessings Amituanai went 2-3, scoring two runs. …

Coach's Corner: Lady Bulldogs Basketball Teams Net Another Win

Brighton Varsity, Junior Varsity and Freshman basketball teams defeated Plymouth Monday night.

- Submitted by Paul Ash The Brighton Varsity Girls basketball team traveled to Plymouth High School on Monday and came away with a come-from-behind win, 39-38.   The Bulldogs trailed throughout the game and finally took the lead with 8 seconds left on two clutch free throws from Courtney Murphy. Brighton trailed at the end of the third quarter 22-33 and still trailed by 10 with a little over four minutes left. The Bulldogs extended their defense and were able to create several turnovers down the stretch to allow them to get back into the game. Courtney Murphy lead the Bulldogs with 20 points, 4 steals and 2 assists.  Laura Taylor added 5 points and 15 rebounds. Brighton improved their record to 14-5 (8-2 in KLAA West league play). Coach's Corner: Brighton Girls Varsity Bowling Win Division Title; Boys Fall Short

Bulldog bowlers eliminated in first round play-offs during Doubles Tournament on Sunday.

-Submitted by Shawn Kind The Girls Varsity Bowling team defeated the Howell Highlanders 16-14 in match play to win the KLAA West Division Title on Saturday. The win brings the team's overall record to 15-1 and 13-1 in KLAA Conference play. Leading the Bulldogs were Brighton High School Junior Samantha Miller, who bowled 238 and Senior Marissa Campbell, who bowled 226 and 215. We were one bowler short because one of the girls broke an ankle, so we were only bowling with five people. It was a big emotional meet because it was for first place and last year, the Highlanders beat us there. They did a great job. We only had five, so we bowled all day.
