Deerfield Principal Kim Warren of Brighton has been put on paid administrative leave.
Deerfield Elementary School Principal Kim Warren was arrested by Novi police Monday morning under suspicion of being intoxicated on school grounds, according to a press release from the Novi Community School District. The press release states that the police found Warren in her car on school property and took her into custody at 2:10 p.m. As of Monday evening, Warren was released pending review by the the Novi city prosecutor, the release said. According to a report from the Detroit Free Press, Novi Police stated Warren lives in Brighton. Novi Superintendent Dr. Steve Matthews said Warren was at school that morning and then went out to lunch. Police arrested her when she returned. A 20-year-old male was seen running out of the Hartland Meijer without paying for a case of beer before tripping in the parking lot and dropping his cell phone and the alcohol. Police say on March 30, a store employee witnessed three males walking toward the exit when one of the suspects ran past her carrying a case of Bud Light beer. The man was barefooted, according to the report, and after tripping in the parking lot, the store employee recovered the suspect’s dropped cell phone. According to the report, the two men who were with the 20-year-old male later returned to the store in an attempt to retrieve the lost cell phone from the customer service desk, but were unsuccessful after they were unable to provide the correct phone number…

A Waterford man was arrested on Tuesday evening for pointing a handgun while traveling northbound on US-23, according to the Michigan State Police. Michigan State Police Troopers from the Brighton Post Green Oak Township Police responded to a call placed by a Westland semi truck driver who reported the man was pointing a black and silver handgun at the passenger door with his finger on the trigger in a black pickup truck on US-23, south of I-96 in Green Oak Township, according to a news release. The semi truck driver stayed on the phone with Livingston County Central Dispatch and was able to assist officers in locating the suspect in the area of US-23 and M-59. Police said a semi-automatic handgun was located inside the man's truck.

The Howell Ultra Diamond jewelry store was burglarized again earlier this month.
Police are asking for help identifying the the person responsible for stealing $230,000 worth of jewelry from the Howell Ultra Diamonds store in Tanger Outlet Mall on March 9. The Michigan State Police Brighton Post and Livingston County Sheriff's Department responded to the alarm around midnight to find the front door and glass cases broken out. Items stolen include pendents, rings, earrings and precious stones. This is the second time in several months the store has been burglarized. Nearly $80,000 worth of jewelry was stolen from the store in December. Updated: 6:59 p.m. Todd Lloyd Griffin, 44, was arrested Monday in connection with 16 home burglaries spanning five counties in southeast Michigan, according to the Oakland County Sheriff's Office. Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard held a press conference on Monday explaining that Griffin targeted homes that were awaiting estate sales or homes of families who were at funerals, earning him the nickname "funeral bandit." Just hours afterwards, Griffin, whose birthday also fell on Monday, was located by local authorities in Colorado at a pawn shop and taken in without incident at 4:30 p.m., according to the Sheriff's Office. Sara Rae Walters was sentenced to prison time for the abuse of her 3-year-old step-grandson.
A Livingston County Circuit Court judge has sentenced Sara Rae Walters to 10-15 years in prison for abusing her 3-year-old step-grandson, according to an article by WHMI 93.5 FM. Walters, of Oceola Township, reached a plea deal in February by pleading no contest on the charge of 1st Degree Child Abuse in exchange for prosecutors dropping the charge of torture. A no contest plea happens when the defendant neither admits nor disputes a charge. A no-contest plea, while not technically a guilty plea, has the same immediate effect as a guilty plea. The charges against Walters, 36, came after a three-month long investigation by police after the boy was admitted to the University of Michigan Pediatric Intensive Care Unit on Oct. 21. Police said …

A 47-year-old Howell woman was arrested on retail theft charges after trying to steal a box of weight loss pills from the Genoa Township Walmart on March 17, according to a Livingston County Sheriff's Department police report. The woman told police her 'old man' was giving her a hard time, calling her fat, so she took Lipozene and concealed it in her bra, the report said. A Walmart loss prevention employee said she saw the woman carry the box of Lipozene into the restroom and followed her in, then saw her carry an empty box out and set it on the water fountain. An unknown supsect attempted to break into the Hartland Township AT&T store on Highland Road on March 1, according to a police report. Police responded to the store alarm after 6 a.m., but did not locate anybody inside the store. Both customer and employee entrance doors were secure, though the employee door had pry marks on the door, with the security latch pried away from the door, according to the report. The store manager told police that nothing was missing from inside the store.

A new job at an online company for a laid-off 50-year-old Hartland man turned out to be an identity theft scam, according to a police report. Police said a 73-year-old Hartland woman reported that her Sears Master Card had an unauthorized charge at a popular retail website. The woman told police that her address was used as the billing address, but the shipping address was a home on Austin Court in Hartland. At the other home, the man told police he recently began working for an online company as a project coordinator. His job was to receive shipments from FedEx, photograph the contents, then repackage the shipments and ship them through the U.S. Postal Service in order to save the company on U.S. Customs fees, the report said. Thousands of dollars worth of smart phones and smart phone accessories were stolen from the Genoa Township Radio Shack on Grand River Road on March 1 around 7:16 a.m., according to a police report. Police said that the store's front glass door and surrounding windows were not broken, but the door frame was bent and some of the sheet metal was ripped and torn when it was forced open. According to the report, the showroom of the store was left undisturbed along with gaming systems and other electronics openly displayed. The cash register drawer was also left alone.
