Howell Man Arrested After Injuring Woman with Machete

The incident happened at Burrough's Tavern in Brighton early Friday morning.

Howell resident Ben Cameron, 30, was arrested and arraigned on charges of aggravated assault, possession of a dangerous weapon with unlawful intent and driving on a suspended license after cutting a woman's hand with a machete early Friday morning. Livingston County Sheriff Bob Bezotte said that Cameron had been in an altercation with another man at Burrough's Tavern in Brighton and was told to leave by owner Joe Agius. Bezotte said Cameron left, but then returned about 15 to 20 minutes later carrying a machete.  The woman, another patron, was injured when she grabbed Cameron to stop him from searching for the other man. Plymouth-Canton Patch Three suspects were charged Thursday in connection with an armed robbery Monday at a Verizon store in Canton. The robbery occurred on Ford Road west of Morton Taylor Road and prompted the lockdownof four adjacent elementary schools. Eric James-Lee Wilkins, 18, from Inkster; Antonio Jerome Porter, 18, from Inkster and Dantez Lamar Boykin-Johnson, 18, from Westland were each arraigned Thursday morning on seven charges: Chelsea Patch Michael Radant, a Chelsea business owner accused of sexually assaulting a woman, is headed to trial in Washtenaw County circuit court. …

Brighton Man Convicted of Sexually Abusing Children in Haiti

A Brighton man has been convicted by a federal court in Miami of sexually abusing Haitian children, according to an article by the Associated Press on LivingstonDaily.com. He now faces sentencing. Matthew Andrew Carter, aka “William Charles Harcourt” and “Bill Carter,” of Brighton, was found guilty of five counts of traveling from Florida to Haiti to engage in sexual activity with minors and one count of attempting child sex tourism. According to the Livingston Daily, Carter's attorney said there is no physical evidence to support the accusations. A 2011 press release from the U.S. Department of Justice says that Carter, who is in his late 60s, operated and lived at Morning Star Center in Port-au-Prince, Haiti before his arrest in the …

Brighton Man Denies Sexually Abusing Children in Haiti

Matthew Andrew Carter is accused of engaging in sexual activity with minors.

A Brighton man denied in federal court Tuesday that he sexually abused children in Haiti, according to media reports. Matthew Andrew Carter faces five counts of traveling from Florida to Haiti to engage in sexual activity with minors and one count of attempting child sex tourism, according to an article by the Associated Press in the Detroit Free Press. Carter is on trial in Miami, where he was arrested in 2011 for the crimes. According to the Free Press, Carter ran the Morning Star Center in Haiti, a missionary that provided food, clothing and education to families, from 1995-2011. The article states that two residents testified earlier this month that Carter abused them as children. The trial is ongoing in Miami.

MSU Student From Rochester Dies of Injuries; Man Arrested After Discharging Gun While Intoxicated

Rochester Patch A 23-year-old Michigan State University senior from Rochester was killed early Saturday at an apartment complex in Meridian Township, according to a report on MLive. Andrew Singler was reportedly injured at an apartment complex and transported to Sparrow Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, according to reports from a Lansing-area TV station. Meridian Township police report a suspect was arrested, and an investigation is ongoing, MLive reported. Although several media organizations are reporting that Singler was stabbed, Rochester Patch could not confirm that information …

Cash, Coins and Returnable Cans Stolen from Howell Township Church

The following information was supplied by the Livingston County Sheriff's Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

A burglary was reported at Sonrise Church in Howell Township sometime overnight between Feb. 13 and Feb. 14, according to a police report. A window on the west side of the church leading into the sanctuary was broken, the report said. In addition the sidelight window to the main office was also broken and the door was opened. Police found that two filing cabinets had been pried open along with a safe that was located under a desk.  A total of $10 in coins were taken along with $20.81 in petty cash and a large bag of returnable cans and bottles, worth around $30.

Couple Suspected of Donation Jar Theft Taken Into Custody

The following information was supplied by the Livingston County Sheriff's Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

The Livingston County Sheriff's Department confirms they have taken two suspects into custody who they believe are involved in the theft of a donation jar from a 7-Eleven in Howell. According to a press release from the sheriff's department, a male and female suspect were identified through information obtained from civilian sources and both suspects were positively identified.  After responding to the suspect's Howell residence, police say the 34-year-old male suspect was found hiding in a small crawl space under the floor in a laundry room of the home. After being located, police say the male suspect was turned over to investigators from the Michigan Department of Corrections. The 28-year-old female suspect was identified as the wife of …

Hartland Township Resident Strikes Oakland County Sheriff Patrol Car

The following report came from the Oakland County Sheriff's Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

A 13-year Oakland County Sheriff Deputy was injured in a car accident in Rochester Hills, according to a police report. The accident happened when the vehicle behind the deputy, driven by a 42-year-old Hartland Township resident, was unable to stop and struck the police patrol car. Rochester Hills Fire/EMS transported the deputy to Beaumont Troy Hospital where he was treated and later released, the report said.   The other driver was not injured and was cited for causing the accident.

Police: Woman Reported Fake Abduction Attempt; Autopsy Expected in Death of 82-Year-Old Woman

White Lake-Highland Patch A 20-year-old Waterford woman was cited for making a false police report by White Lake police on Saturday, after police say she said she was nearly abducted in White Lake. The woman, according to the report, called White Lake police on Friday at 9:30 p.m. and reported that a man had attempted to kidnap her while she was pumping gas at a local gas station. The report states that the woman gave a very detailed description of the truck and the man. Police worked with the gas station and, after reviewing evidence, determined that the incident the woman had reported …
