Local Moms Prepare for Brighton Prom Fundraiser

Tickets are on sale for the third annual Mom Prom on May 10.

On April 24, local moms visited Binks and Babs in downtown Brighton for a fundraiser, “Party at Babs,” that donated a percentage of the evening's sales to the upcoming Mom Prom. The third annual Mom Prom is scheduled for May 10. The event is a "girls only night out" and will include dancing, appetizers and a cash bar.  According to the announcement, participants will have the chance to take pictures with a "hunky dates, run for Prom Queen or just enjoy the night with friends." Tickets are $30 until April 15 and $40 after and will be available at the door.  Last year’s event raised more than $2,000, according to Kristine Stuenkel, which helps Stuenkel’s Tour de Cure team – Team Mackenzie- which is in support of her 17-year-old daughter. …

'Party at Babs' Fundraiser Helps Moms Find their 'Tacky' Prom Dress

Binks and Babs in Brighton will help raise money for the Mom Prom while offering gently used prom and bridesmaid dresses available to rent.

It’s Prom season and the big dance isn’t just for high school students anymore. As Brighton’s third annual Mom Prom gets closer, most Prom-goers know, it’s all about the dress. But, in the spirit of the Mom Prom, “the tackier dress, the better,” according to event organizer Jackie Price. An upcoming fundraiser, “Party at Babs,” will look to help solve the dress dilemma and also donate a percentage of the evening's sales to the Mom Prom. The Mom Prom, which began three years ago by Brighton resident Kristine Stuenkel, helps raise money for The American Diabetes Association.  Binks and Babs in downtown Brighton will host the event on April 24 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. with gently used prom and bridesmaid dresses available to rent for night of …

'Help Drive Out Hunger' Benefit

Lingenfelter Car Collection will host a benefit for the Livingston County Hunger Council on April 11.

On Thursday, April 11, a one-of-a-kind event will be held at the Lingenfelter Car Collection in Brighton, benefitting the Livingston County Hunger Council.  Attendees will experience one hundred and fifty of the most exclusive cars in the United States, including the Lamborghini Reventon #12 – one of 20 ever made.  Guests could win a ride in a car of their dreams – a Bugatti Veyron, or Ferrari Enzo. Some of the evening’s activities involve playing Car-Opoly, a twist on a classic game.  Between the trivia, fun facts, top hats, prizes, networking opportunities, great food and drinks, and world-class cars, guests are assured to have a most memorable evening. Fundraiser Planned for Former Brighton Soccer Coach Battling Cancer

A fundraiser for Mark Howell will be held Jan. 31 at Crystal Gardens Banquet Center.

After mentoring and coaching so many local youth soccer players, the Brighton community is rallying to help Brighton graduate and former Varsity Soccer Coach Mark Howell. Howell, 30, was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in mid-November, just weeks after the birth of his first child, Gabriel. After undergoing a 10-hour surgery to remove 18 pounds of affected area - including parts of his pancreas, stomach, large intestine, colon and his gall bladder, Howell will have to undergo chemotherapy treatments for the next year or longer. Because Howell and his family will have to pay for his treatments out of pocket, the Brighton community is organizing a fundraiser for to help his pay medical bills. Hundreds Rally Outside Troy Marriott Before Romney Fundraiser Event

The presidential candidate is in town for a private event hosted by Gov. Rick Snyder on Wednesday night.

A crowd of about 200 people gathered Wednesday afternoon outside the Troy Marriott hotel on Big Beaver Road to rally in protest of visiting Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney. Romney is in Troy for a private fundraiser hosted by Gov. Rick Snyder at the hotel. Protesters carried signs and waved at motorists along Big Beaver, many of whom were honking as they passed by. "We're here to support Barack Obama," said Jeff Klayo of Mt. Clemens, who attended the rally with two fellow UAW members. "He stands for the little guys... The working class." Fundraisers to Help Cover Medical Expenses of Dearborn Woman in Need of Liver Transplant

Melissa Kania, who works with the East Dearborn Downtown Development Authority, needs help covering medical bills for a liver transplant.

A Brighton family is banding together to raise money for a family member's liver transplant. In 2011, Dearborn resident and East Dearborn Downtown Development Authority Executive Assistant Melissa Kania had an allergic reaction to an antibiotic prescribed to her. This allergic reaction has caused her to have vanishing bile duct syndrome, and more than a year later, she is in need of a liver transplant. Though Kania is high on the waiting list, her family and friends are looking to make sure that finances are not a problem as she recovers, and are hosting two fundraisers to help. A spaghetti dinner fundraiser will be held for Kania on June 2 at St. Mary’s School, located at 10601 Dexter-Pinckney Road in Pinckney. According to the Kania …

Pheasants Forever Fundraiser Supports Michigan Outdoors

The fundraiser will take place on Feb. 10 at Crystal Gardens in Howell.

The Livingston County Pheasants Forever is hosting its 17th annual banquet on Feb. 10, which will raise funds to improve natural habitats and to support youth and disabled veteran programs. A live and silent auction with items that include Africa hunts, guided fly fishing, golf packages and more will be available for bidding. Pheasants Forever is a non-profit organization that is dedicated to the protection of wildlife populations, including pheasants, through habitat restoration, education and public awareness. According to a press release, Matt Inkle, president of the Livingston County Pheasants Forever, said that funds raised from last years banquet went toward improving 1,200 acres with special grasses in Livingston County and …
