LACASA Launches Teen Dating Violence Campaign in Local High Schools

February is Teen Dating Violence Prevention and Awareness Month.

This Isn't Love. That's the name of LACASA's brand new campaign to promote awareness of teen dating violence and abuse in nine Livingston County high schools, including Brighton High School. The campaign is designed to help teens understand the difference between healthy relationships and abusive relationships by teaching teens to recognize words, actions and red flag behaviors. In 2009, February was named Teen Dating Violence Prevention and Awareness Month. "I think a lot of times people were just linking in their teen violence efforts and dating violence efforts in October with domestic violence awareness - which is what we've always done," said Nicole Matthews-Creech, LACASA Community Education Director and Volunteer Coordinator. "But …

More than 100 men participated in LACASA's 7th Annual Walk a Mile in Her Shoes event at Tanger Outlets on Saturday.

Men gathered to support LACASA's 7th Annual Walk a Mile in Her Shoes event, to raise money and sexual assault awareness while carrying signs that said, "I am man enough to walk in her shoes," and "Uncomfortable, but worth it." According to LACASA Development Director, Julie Smith, this year's fundraiser raised about $18,000 after a preliminary count after the event.

Prom dresses are not cheap - a fact Cinderella's Closet is well aware of. Cinderella's Closet, now in its 7th year, is a LACASA program that provides high school girls with affordable formal wear. LACASA invited 300 guests to its VIP Appreciation Celebration Tuesday night, where it held tours of its facility and unveiled its new brand identity

Major sponsors and supporters were among the first to see LACASA's new brand identity, during a celebration Tuesday night. The nonprofit organization unveiled its new logo, mission statement and website, while giving tours of its newly renovated facility, that now includes offices for the Family Resource Center which merged with LACASA late last year. The nonprofit also announced its new name change. LACASA previously stood for the acronym Livingston Area Council for Spousal Abuse, since its formation in 1981. The Board of Directors unanimously voted in December to shorten it to just LACASA, because the organization now represents more than just spousal abuse. Communications Director Robin O'Grady said she spent thousands of hours working …
