Brighton Teen Arrested After Leading Police on Foot Chase

A 17-year-old from Brighton along with a 23-year-old and a 15-year-old from Howell were arrested in connection to a string of robberies after a foot chase led police through neighborhoods and businesses in Howell on Wednesday morning.  Police say on May 22 at 6 a.m., a 911 caller told police he was watching as three young men carried items away from his home and walking to a nearby neighborhood through the woods. When police arrived on scene, the three men were seen running while carrying electronic items that included subwoofer speakers and car amplifiers, according to the report.  The 23-year-old Howell man immediately dropped to the ground after seeing the police officer, according to the report, while the two teens took off running. …

Brighton Man Charged with Open Murder in Gun Range Shooting Death

Jessce Lincon Stearn could face a murder charge for the shooting death of Charles Robert Kimball.

Updated at 11:45 a.m. Livingston County Prosecutor William Vailliencourt confirmed that he has filed new charges in the shooting death of Charles Kimball. "Based on new evidence, Jessce Lincon Stearn has been charged with Open Murder and Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony," a press release from the prosecutor's office stated. "The murder charge carries with it a maximum sentence of life in prison and the weapons charge requires a mandatory two year prison sentence." Sheriff's Department Warns Against 'Traveler' Scams

Police say Livingston County residents should be careful when approached by solicitors.

The Livingston County Sheriff's Department is reminding county residents to be careful when dealing with people offering solitation services and warning against potential scam situatuions. On May 6, the Livingston County Sheriff’s Department received a complaint from an elderly Putnam resident of a fraudulent driveway seal coating company operating in the area. The woman told police that a man had approached offering to seal her driveway for $9,400 and also offered her a warrenty and told her he would start immediately, according to a press release from the sheriff's department. Police say the driveway was coated with a thin black substance inconsistent with seal coat material which didn't seal any driveway cracks. And after seeing the …

Baby Formula Stolen from Hartland Walmart

A couple is suspected of stealing more than $500 worth of baby formula from the Hartland Walmart, according to a police report from the Livingston County Sheriff’s Department. On April 13, police say a loss prevention officer for the store contacted police after reviewing security footage showing the suspects concealing cans of formula in a blue tote bag and placing them in a shopping cart. The suspects then separated, exited the store at different times and met up in the store parking lot where they loaded the items into a vehicle, according to the report.  The Walmart employee was able to determine that 26 cans of Enfamil baby formula were taken from the store with the help of electronic records and security footage, according to the …

Crack Cocaine Found on 'Begging' Suspects in Hartland

Two “begging” suspects claiming to be veterans with disabilities were found to be in possession of crack cocaine and were arrested in the parking lot of the Hartland Target, according to a report from the Livingston County Sheriff’s Department.  On April 7, police responded to a 911 call around 4 p.m. at the Hartland Kroger’s regarding a possible welfare check scam. Police say they were given information for a suspect driving a car with a disabled vet license plate. Police say they found the car parked in a handicapped parking spot at the Hartland Target and observed two male suspects talking to a separate couple standing outside the vehicle and who, police say, appeared to be ready to give money to the two supsects.  After approaching the…

Tripping Suspect Drops Cell Phone, Stolen Beer in Meijer Parking Lot

A 20-year-old male was seen running out of the Hartland Meijer without paying for a case of beer before tripping in the parking lot and dropping his cell phone and the alcohol.  Police say on March 30, a store employee witnessed three males walking toward the exit when one of the suspects ran past her carrying a case of Bud Light beer. The man was barefooted, according to the report, and after tripping in the parking lot, the store employee recovered the suspect’s dropped cell phone. According to the report, the two men who were with the 20-year-old male later returned to the store in an attempt to retrieve the lost cell phone from the customer service desk, but were unsuccessful after they were unable to provide the correct phone number…

Police Identify Suspect Vehicle in Widespread Catalytic Converter Thefts

The thefts have occurred in Hartland, Howell, Brighton and Genoa townships

The Livingston County Sheriff’s office is investigating several thefts of catalytic converters in Hartland, Howell, Brighton and Genoa townships. The photo at right was taken from a Brighton Township storage facility where the suspect removed a catalytic converter from a parked car. Detectives believe that this vehicle could be connected to multiple thefts of catalytic converters in the Livingston County area. The suspect vehicle appears to be a Gold Chrysler Cirrus between the model years of 1996 and 2000.    Anyone with information on the person of interest or vehicle is encouraged to contact Detective Curt Novara at 517-540-7952 or contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP

Howell Woman Steals Gold Ring, Cash from Mother, Grandmother

The 18-year-old is addicted to heroin and after her arrest, she told jail deputies she was hiding drugs in her rectum.

An 18-year-old Howell woman was arrested after her mother told police she had stolen a gold ring from her and $620 from her grandmother.  A Livington County sheriff's deputy found the 18-year-old in Whitmore Lake on March 26, the same day her mother reported the theft. The girl admitted to stealing the ring and pawning it in Detroit. She also admitted to stealing the money and said she had already spent it, according to the police report. The 18-year-old told the deputy that she had used heroin about two hours before police found her, according to the report, and said she had a "severe heroin dependency." The deputy arrested the girl and took her to the Livingston County Jail, where she told jail deputies that she was hiding heroin in her …

Top Shelf Liquor Reported Stolen from Hartland Meijer

Three bottles of top shelf liquor were reported stolen from the Hartland Meijer, according to a report from the Livingston County Sheriff's Department. Police say a Meijer Loss Prevention employee found a cart with a box of empty liquor bottles and spider packaging while walking through the store on March 18. After reviewing store video, police the employee noticed a male suspect unwrap and conceal two bottles of Crown Royale and one bottle of Jack Daniels, valued at more than $120, and exit the store without paying According to the report, the same male was seen again in the store on March 19, concealing unknown merchandise and exiting the store without paying. $102,000 worth of diamond jewelry reported stolen in Howell A Howell woman …

Police Seek Tips in $230,000 Jewelry Store Heist

The Howell Ultra Diamond jewelry store was burglarized again earlier this month.

Police are asking for help identifying the the person responsible for stealing $230,000 worth of jewelry from the Howell Ultra Diamonds store in Tanger Outlet Mall on March 9.  The Michigan State Police Brighton Post and Livingston County Sheriff's Department responded to the alarm around midnight to find the front door and glass cases broken out.  Items stolen include pendents, rings, earrings and precious stones.  This is the second time in several months the store has been burglarized. Nearly $80,000 worth of jewelry was stolen from the store in December.  The criminal investigation is continuing and officers are requesting anyone who may have information to contact Michigan State Police Trooper Joseph Pendergraff at the Brighton Post …
