College A Cappella Night to Benefit Brighton Choirs

The Accafellas, Harmonettes and The Ebb and Flow Quartet will all perform at the BCPA Friday night.

College and high school voices will unite Friday night during the first College A Cappella Night which will raise money to benefit Brighton High School and Scranton Middle School choirs. The show, which will be Friday at 7:30 p.m. at the Brighton Center for Performing Arts, will feature The Accafellas from Michigan State University, The Harmonettes from the University of Michigan and The Ebb and Flow Quartet from Central Michigan University.  In addition, Chicappella, the women's a Cappella group and Notorious, the men's a Cappella group from Brighton High School will perform. Brighton Students Make College Dean's Lists

Wolverines Win on the Field; Spartans Win on Patch

Saturday's Michigan vs. Michigan State game was close in both scoring and online reader support.

Saturday's game at the Big House came down to the wire, with Michigan beating Michigan State 12-10. The rivalry was nearly as close online in a Patch.com reader poll. Readers were asked to show off their Michigan or Michigan State pride by uploading photos of their favorite team. When the photos were counted at midnight Sunday, the Spartans squeaked by with a 35-30 victory over the Wolverines. Several photos featured memorabilia from both teams, which resulted in each team being awarded a point. If you missed the photo gallery, there's still time to check it out. Dedication and hard work bring Brighton resident Stephanie Konkel success with spirit wear company while benefiting school programs.

Surrounded by colorful varsity jackets, fabrics, sewing machines and her computer, Stephanie Konkel of Kensington Valley Varsity is getting ready to pack it all up this spring. But the successful entrepreneur isn't closing shop, she's expanding to a new space that's twice the size. As other local businesses struggle through a sluggish economy, business is booming for Kensington Valley Varsity. Konkel credits its growth, in part, to her Give Back to Students program. While selling her first varsity jacket line to local school districts, Konkel came up with the idea of giving schools a percentage of the sales to help promote the jackets.
