With Brighton's Prom just a short month away, preparations for the big dance are in full swing. But before finals plans for dresses, shoes and limos can be made, sometimes finding your date comes first. The growing tradition of prom-posals can include a car full of balloons or a messages written in lights, but high schools students everywhere are getting more creative when asking their prospective partner to Prom. Last year, one Brighton High School senior decided to ask his girlfriend by writing "Prom" on his stomach during a lacrosse game. Cinderella’s Closet, now in its 8th year, is holding a dress drive in preparation for Spring Prom Season. LACASA's Cinderella’s Closet boutique offers high school girls a chance to shop for a good cause. All dresses are $25 and proceeds go to help abused children and victims of interpersonal violence in Livingston County. Gently-used gowns and party dresses are needed in all sizes. Dress donations are accepted at Snedicor’s Green Earth Cleaners in Brighton and Howell. Eco-friendly cleaning is provided for all donated dresses at no charge. Brighton High School celebrated its Prom on Saturday at Crystal Gardens Banquet Center in Howell. The night included dinner and dancing. Cinderella's Closet will hold Boutique Days April 12, 13 and 14 as well as on April 19, 20 and 21.
Prom dresses are not cheap - a fact Cinderella's Closet is well aware of. Cinderella's Closet, now in its 7th year, is a LACASA program that provides high school girls with affordable formal wear. LACASA is a nonprofit organization that advocates for survivors of child abuse, domestic violence and sexual assault. Year-round, people can donate their used formal gowns at either of the two Snedicor's Cleaners locations in Brighton and Howell. Snedicor's then cleans the dresses and holds them for Cinderella's Closet, which usually holds boutique days during prom season and then again during homecoming season for girls to come in and try on dresses.
