Green Oak Township's TGI Friday's will hold its third annual Shop With a Cop fundraiser Tuesday. The day will include domestic draft beer specials and half-off selected appetizers. All proceeds will be used to help local families in need get groceries and presents this holiday season. The fundraiser will include an auction of sports memorabilia, including an autographed football by University of Michigan football coach Brady Hoke. Shop with a Cop pairs underprivileged children in the community with a police officer to shop for Christmas gifts. The event will take place at the Genoa Township Walmart Dec. 1. The Annual Shop with a Cop program helps needy kids by taking them Christmas shopping before the holidays.
The Howell Walmart was swarmed by Livingston County law enforcement officials and the kids they were partnered with during this year's annual Shop with a Cop event. Shop with a Cop is a special program that allows police to partner with county agencies to identify kids in need and take them holiday shopping to buy gifts for themselves and their families. This year, about 75 kids got to ride in police cars in a procession down Grand River to the Howell Walmart with lights and sirens going. Each kid was able to spend $125 on holiday gifts. The program is funded through year-round fundraisers and donations.
