Scranton Middle School Goes Live on Twitter

Principal Mark Wilson will use the social media platform to communicate with parents.

Scranton Middle School will be jumping on the Social Media train this week when it asks parents to follow Principal Mark Wilson on Twitter for school news and updates. Wilson said that in every school he's been in, the number one complaint of parents is that they don't know what is going on in their childrens' schools. "Scranton does a weekly newsletter in the building, so we've heard a lot less of that than any other place I've been," he said. "But at the same time, you send out a newsletter on Friday, and by Wednesday, they may not remember what's going on. So this is just a really unique way of communicating. Twitter Account Pokes Fun at Brighton Area Schools, Teachers and Students

A twitter account features many tweets containing profanity about Brighton places and people.

On Monday afternoon, Hartland Consolidated Schools succeeded in suspending a parody Twitter account with the handle @HartlandProblems after tweets were deemed bullying and inappropriate as they were accompanied by an image of a former administrator. A similar account exists in Brighton, under the handle @Brighton_Probs. Unlike the Hartland one, it does not use the image of a school official. The account is run by an anonymous person or persons. Tweets contain profanity, and many of them mention Brighton school teachers or others by name. The account has 444 followers. New Digital Multi Media Program Coming to Brighton High School

Brighton Area School Board members approved the third program course - Advanced Web Social Media - at its Jan. 23 meeting.

Brighton High School is getting a new career technical education program, thanks to Michelle Costa, an 8-year veteran teacher who is busy designing a new social media course to create a Digital Multimedia Program for students. The Brighton Area Schools Board of Education approved adding advanced web social media to the many courses students can choose from during its Jan. 23 meeting. The new course will join two existing classes - game development programming and web design - to round out the Digital Multimedia Program at the high school.
