Dawn Thie is originally from New Jersey and is organizing a fundraiser to send supplies to a New Jersey shelter for hurricane victims.
Brighton resident Dawn Thie may have moved to Michigan seven years ago, but she'll always be a Jersey girl at heart. And after seeing the devastation in her home state brought on by Hurricane Sandy, she's starting a fundraiser to collect supplies to send to those who lost their homes to the superstorm. Thie's family and friends still in New Jersey, but fortunately did not suffer too much damage to their homes except for the occasional downed tree and power outages. In fact, Thie said, one relative just got power back Friday, while others still remain without. "Everybody's like, 'Well, get a generator,'" Thie said. Two Brighton Troopers were among the Michigan State Police's deployment of 24 law enforcement officers to New Jersey in order to provide law enforcement support and security in the wake of Hurricane Sandy.
The Michigan State Police (MSP) recently sent 24 uniform personnel to New Jersey on a seven day deployment to help provide law enforcement in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy. MSP Jackson Post Commander Lt. Mike Krumm led the deployment with three sergeants and 20 Troopers from posts in Northern, Southwestern and mid-Michigan areas. Two of the State Troopers come from the Brighton Post.

The Michigan State Police (MSP) recently deployed 24 uniform personnel to New Jersey to provide additional law enforcement assistance in the wake of Hurricane Sandy, according to a press release. The seven day deployment began Nov. 4 and included MSP Jackson Post Commander Lt. Mike Krumm as well as three sergeants and 20 Troopers from posts in Northern, Southwestern and mid-Michigan areas. Two of the State Troopers come from the Brighton Post. The MSP deployment is in response to a request from the New Jersey State Police for out-of-state support through the Emergency Management Assistance Compact (EMAC), a mutual aid agreement between states. It's been said it's far better to have a neighbor who's near, than a brother who's far away, but in the wake of Hurricane Sandy, Americans across the nation have proven to be the best neighbors and the strongest of families.
