Fall Recipe: Pumpkin Chili

This recipe for chili is perfect for a busy week, simply through it together in the morning and let it cook in the Crock Pot while you're at work.

Pumpkin is such a versatile ingredient, and in my opinion you can never have too much of it. When the weather is cold and rainy, I crave chili. So, last weekend, when the weather was terrible, I decided to start searching for a fall flavored chili. I stumbled across this recipe for pumpkin Chili while on Pinterest. The original post is from a blog called Sweet Pea's Kitchen. The great thing about this recipe is that it's different than most chili. The flavor has a hint of cinnamon, and the spices aren't overpowering. The heat in the chili is a slow steady heat that doesn't keep you from enjoying the meal. If you want it spicier, you can add more hot sauce or chili powder. Because I don't like beans or peppers, I only used one can of beans…

Fall Recipes: Beer-Glazed Sausage and Apples

Looking for a cozy and delicious recipe to keep you warm during those cool fall nights? Try this recipe for beer-glazed sausage and apples.

When the leaves start to fall and the cool autumn chill sets in I like to cook meals that have a warmth to them. While reading through the latest edition of Better Homes and Gardens I came across this recipe for beer-glazed sausage and apples. Never one to turn down an opportunity to cook with beer, I decided to give this dish a try. The crushed red pepper flakes give this dish a nice subtle heat, and you can't go wrong with the fall flavors. The apples add just the right amount of sweetness, and help to balance out the strong flavors of the beer and kielbasa. If you have leftover apples from the orchard, I highly recommend making this dish. It's perfect to make during the weeknight, and it doesn't take too long to prepare. To make this …

Fall Recipes: Tortellini with Pumpkin Alfredo Sauce

Pumpkin is a great source of fiber and vitamin A. Sneak it into some of your favorite dishes to add a little fall flavor.

One of my favorite things about fall is cooking with pumpkin. Pumpkin is one of those ingredients that really lends itself well to both sweet dishes and savory dishes. In addition, pumpkin has a lot of healthy qualities. It's high in fiber and vitamin A, and it has some antioxidants. You can sneak pumpkin into several dishes, like macaroni and cheese, or this tortellini with pumpkin Alfredo sauce from Food Network Magazine, and get your family to eat a little healthier. This Alfredo sauce is one of my favorites. The dish is easy to make, and the sauce is incredible. For those who might not like pumpkin, I recommend trying this anyway - the pumpkin is very light and you can hardly taste it. The freshly grated nutmeg also adds a nice warmth …

Not Your Mom's Tomato Soup With Grilled Cheese Croutons

This twist on a classic soup spices things up and is easy to make.

I'll admit it, I hate the tomato soup that comes from a can. Growing up, it was a classic dish from my childhood, tomato soup and grilled cheese, but I could never eat the soup. I'm not sure why, I love tomatoes, it must be something about the texture. So, when I stumbled upon this recipe for homemade tomato soup with grilled cheese croutons in the October edition of Food Network Magazine, I decided to give it a try and see if it would change my mind about a soup and sandwich combo that many people love. This soup is delicious. The spices give it a unique flavor, while still keeping with the classic tomato tones, and the orzo pasta and onion add a heartiness that I think soup from the can is sorely lacking. And who doesn't love the idea of…

Fall Maple Chicken With Potatoes

Fall is in the air, the leaves are falling and maple syrup is the perfect ingredient to spice up your chicken dinners.

I know what you're thinking: "Maple syrup and chicken? Are you sure?" I promise you, it's amazing. Maple syrup is one of those foods that pairs well with savory items. The sweet and earthy flavor of the syrup melds well with the savory chicken and spices in the potatoes. Beside, adding a little sweetness to a dish can be a great way to get picky children to eat their vegetable and dinner. To make this fall flavored recipe you'll need: To start, preheat the oven to 400 degrees. Next, grease a shallow baking pan. Cut the potatoes into cubes. Chop the onion, and mix with the potatoes, oil, paprika and salt. Place in baking pan. Bake the potatoes and onion, uncovered, for 30 minutes. After 30 minutes turn oven temperature down to 350 degrees. …
