Will Right-to-Work Law Lead to Recall of Gov. Snyder?

A political expert said Michigan could be “ground zero for a recall vote” against Snyder in 2013.

Could the sudden passage of the highly controversial right-to-work legislation lead to Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder's name appearing on a statewide ballot for something other than his re-election campaign? One political expert thinks it's possible. Joshua Spivak, a senior fellow at Wagner College’s Hugh L. Carey Institute for Government Reform, told Politico that Michigan could be “ground zero for a recall vote” against Snyder in 2013. “There doesn’t seem to be a specific goal of going after state legislatures or state governors in any significant way, though that might change in Michigan because of right-to-work (legislation),” Spivak said in the Politico story.  Local recall elections, such as the one voters recently approved against Troy …

UPDATED: Murphy Re-Elected Brighton Township Supervisor; Doughty, Slaton Retain Trustee Seats

Newcomers Patrick Michel and Lucille Weaire will join Incumbents Cathy Doughty and Mike Slaton on the Brighton Township Board of Trustees.

Tom Murphy was re-elected as Brighton Township Supervisor, defeating his independent challenger John Ewing, according to unofficial results from the Livingston County Clerk's Office. Murphy received 6,373 votes, while Ewing received 2,245, with all nine precincts reporting. Ewing's defeat comes in the wake of his somewhat controversial campaign, which alleged corruption and illegal activities within the current Township Board. The campaign specifically targeted Murphy, with mailings that stated, "We will stamp out Murphy corruption." Murphy denied the allegations. The $5.6 million bond proposal would have paid for community improvements and infrastructure.

City of Brighton voters shot down the city's $5.6 million bond proposal for community improvements and infrastructure on Tuesday. Unofficial results from the Livingston County Clerk's Office say 1,958 residents voted "no," while 1,833 residents voted "yes," with all four precincts reporting. "I think that a positive result of this process is that our City Council provided our voters an opportunity to directly say what they want versus what they do not want regarding these subjects," City Manager Dana Foster said. Foster said that he anticipates that he will be discussing possible options as what to do next regarding community and infrastructure improvements, planning and funding with City Council memebers during the annual City Council …

Bill Rogers Re-Elected to 42nd District State House Seat

Rep. Bill Rogers won the general election Tuesday, according to unofficial poll results.

Rep. Bill Rogers (R-Brighton) will retain his office as the 42nd District State Representative after defeating Democratic opponent Shanda Willis Tuesday night, according to unofficial results from the Livingston County Clerk's Office. Rogers, who was first elected to the office in 2008, received 31,428 votes, with all 46 precincts reporting. Willis received 16,453 votes while Libertarian candidate James Lewis received 1,828 votes. Rogers said while he was not personally thrilled overall on election night, he is happy both himself and Rep. Cindy Denby (R-Hartland) will be back for another term to continue what they started. Updated: Krause, Fiani Will Fill Open Brighton Area Schools Board of Education Seats

Brighton Schools Operating Millage Renewal passes at the polls.

Brighton Area Schools Incumbent Jay Krause will keep his seat on the Board of Education and he will be joined by newcomer Nick Fiani, according to unofficial results from the Livingston County Clerk's office. With all 22 precincts reporting, Krause received the most votes, with 7,585. Fiani beat out fellow challenger Ken Stahl by a close 172 votes, with 6,873 to Stahl's 6,701. Candidate Keith Van Hentenryck received 4,059 votes. Fiani said his overall priority as he steps into his new position as a board member is to make sure that the district's finances stay in order by looking at where it currently stands with its deficit then look into the best way to aggressively remove it. Mike Rogers Re-Elected in the U.S. 8th Congressional District

Rogers is the projected winner of the 8th Congressional seat, according to unofficial results.

U.S. Rep. Mike Rogers (R-Brighton) was re-elected Tuesday night, defeating Democatic challenger Lance Enderle, according to unofficial results reported by The Huffington Post. Rogers, who has represented the district since 2001, is the projected winner with 58.7 percent of the votes and 80 percent of precincts reporting. Enderle received 36.9 percent of votes. Rogers is the current Chairman of the House Intelligence Committee. He recently discussed his cyber security bill, which would allow sharing sharing of covert intelligence information with the private sector to allow businesses to protect themselves against personal cyber attacks, with the Greater Brighton Area Chamber of Commerce.

Michigan Election 2012: Stabenow Captures Senate Seat

Five of the six statewide ballot proposals were defeated, according to early results.

Voters throughout Michigan chose Barack Obama over Mitt Romney for president, according to early results, and voted no on at least five of the six state proposals. Michiganders also chose incumbent Democrat Debbie Stabenow over Republican challenger Pete Hoekstra for Senate, according to early results. Voter turnout was reported to be high across the state. In 2008, 66.2 percent of Michigan's registered voters cast ballots, the highest number since 1968 when voter turnout was 66.8 percent. Barack Obama Projected Winner in Michigan

Exit polls show voters backing Barack Obama; national media give the state's 16 electoral votes to the president.

The polls have not been closed long, but based on exit polls results several media organizations have declared President Barack Obama the winner of Michigan's 16 electoral votes on Tuesday, defeating Republican and native son Mitt Romney. NBC, NPR, CNN, the Wall Street Journal and the Washington Post all have declared Obama the winner. Media outlets also have called the overall race for Obama. In the 2008 presidential election, the state voted for the Democratic candidate, and in recent elections has voted for the overall winner of the presidential race 3 out of 5 times.
