According to the Facebook post, Finnerty's family says he suffered several concussions during his football career and are concerned that may triggered this episode.

Finnerty played for Grand Valley State where he led the Lakers to three National Championships from 2003-2006, according to the Facebook post, and later spent time in the NFL with the Baltimore Ravens.

Finnerty was married and had two young children.
