Association of American Educators Visits Livingston County

What options are available for teachers now that they are
not required to join a union as a condition of employment?  RetakeOurGov addresses this question as it
welcomes Mr. Gary Beckner, Executive Director of the Association of American
Educators (AAE), to its July meeting.
AAE is a professional organization for educators, somewhat similar to the
American Medical Association (for doctors) or the State Bar (for lawyers).

While providing similar benefits, AAE reportedly can save a
teacher about $700/year in dues. Mr. Beckner will provide an overview of AAE and
compare/contrast it to a union organization.  Additionally, Mr. Beckner will be joined by
Mr. Vincent Vernuccio, Director of Labor Policy at the Mackinac Center for
Public Policy.  Mr. Vernuccio will
discuss the legal aspects of resigning from a union. This informational meeting
will be held on July 9, 2013 from 7:00 to 8:30 pm at Memories Restaurant at
1840 S. Old U.S. 23, Brighton, Michigan 48114. The public is welcome.

“We are pleased welcome Mr. Beckner to Brighton,” said Wes
Nakagiri, Founder of RetakeOurGov.  “We
are honored that this is his first visit to Michigan since Right to Work
Legislation was passed earlier this year.
That he is traveling here from California indicates the importance of
Michigan teachers to the AAE.”
