Brighton Student Runner-up in Music Competition

Spencer Grasl, 15, of Brighton won an opportunity to perform with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra.

Spencer Grasl, a Brighton High School oboist, was the runner-up in a competition at the Max M. Fisher Music Center for a chance to solo on AVANTI’s July Festival Concerts.

Grasl, 15, competed with five other young musicians across the state July 3. He will perform the first movement of Mozart’s Oboe Concerto on Thursday, July 25, at 7:30 p.m. along with DSO Musicians in a chamber music concert in Birmingham’s First United Methodist Church.

“AVANTI Summer MusicFest and the DSO have both affected me musically and emotionally, and have encouraged me to work toward achievement," Grasl said in a press release.
