Brighton Dancers Earn Top Spots

Brighton's Academy of Dance takes home three first place finished in latest competition.

By Theresa Mitchell

Academy of Dance has returned from our latest competition, and our competition year just keep getting better.

This competition was the Applause Regional Dance Championships, and were held at Walled Lake Western High School. We took 33 dances to this competition, and received five Platinum awards, 28 High Gold awards, and had 17 dances place in the Overall awards for their age divisions, with three first place finishes.

Special mention goes to:

  • Lydia Bolen, who won a scholarship to the Fuzion Dance Convention, which will be held in Chicago this summer. Lydia placed Third Overall in her age division.
  • "Mambo Italiano" for winning a special Judge's Choice award, the "Terrific Trio" award. "Mambo Italiano" placed Second Overall in their age division.
  • "Breakfast Club" also won a special Judge's Choice award, the "Creative Concept" award. "Breakfast Club" placed First Overall in their age division!
  • Gabrielle Wink, who also was awarded a scholarship to the Fuzion Dance Convention that will be held in Chicago this summer. Gabrielle was awarded a "High Gold", in addition to winning her scholarship.
  • And to "Dance To The Music", for receiving a special invitation to the KAR All-Star Kids Experience, held in New York City this summer. The All-Star Kids Experience is an invitation only event, so having any of our dancers invited, much less our biggest group, was especially exciting! "Dance To The Music" was Third Overall in their division.

Many of our individual dancers and groups placed higher this year than they ever have before, which made this competition a fantastic experience for everyone. We're hoping to keep the momentum going for the rest of the year.
