Brighton Challenges Local Artists to a 'Paint Out'

This Saturday, downtown Brighton will be the focus of approximately 25 plein air painters from the southeast Michigan area as they compete in the Brighton Paint Out.

Capturing the beauty of Brighton, more than 25 plein air, or outdoor painting, artists will spend their day on Saturday painting their favorite scenes around downtown.

The Brighton Paint Out, is a collaborative effort between the Brighton Art Guild, Brighton Art and Culture Commission and the Greater Brighton Area Chamber of Commerce.

“The DIA Inside/Out exhibition which is taking place in Brighton right now is a beautiful addition to the sculptures we have. A museum without walls is how our city manager describes Brighton," Claudia Roblee, the Chair of the Brighton Art and Culture Commission said in a press release. "We wanted to highlight all the great art we have in Brighton right now and we felt it would be exciting for people to see art in action, so to speak.”

The artists get to choose which scene of Brighton they would like to paint and will have approximately six hours to complete their work. The paintings will then go to ArtVentures starting Monday, July 22 where people will be able to vote for their favorite piece.

On August 2, the paintings will be transferred to a special wine tasting and art tent during the Brighton Art Festival. Voting will continue until the evening of August 3 and winners will be announced on August 4.
