Nominations Sought for 2014 Brighton Area Women’s History Roll of Honor

Nominations are being accepted through January 31 of potential candidates for induction into the Brighton Area Women's History Roll of Honor.

In recognition of the achievements and contributions by women of the greater Brighton area, nominations are being accepted through January 31, 2014, of potential candidates for induction into the Brighton Area Women’s History Roll of Honor. 

Begun in 2003 in recognition of the Congressional Resolution designating the month of March as “Women’s History Month,” fifty-nine women have been celebrated to date.  

Qualifications for admission to the Brighton Area Women’s History Roll of Honor include being born in the Brighton area, achievement of prominence while living within the area, or having been a resident of the area for an extended period of time.

Nominations will describe distinctive accomplishments in the candidate’s chosen field of endeavor (professional or otherwise); contributions made of an enduring nature to the social, cultural, economic, or political well-being of the community, state, or nation; service given or commitment made which may have significantly advanced the status of women in society; and/or qualities of character and personal ideals which would serve as a positive influence on youth and as a model for other women. 

Booklets containing nomination forms may be obtained at the following locations:  

  • Brighton District Library at 100 Library Drive 
  • Greater Brighton Area Chamber of Commerce Building at 218 East Grand River
  • Brighton Area Schools B.E.C.C. Building at the corner of East Main and Church Streets. 
Nominations must be received by January 31, 2014, to qualify for induction this year. The 2014 honorees will be announced in March during National Women’s History Month.
