Son Wins 'World's Greatest' Dad a Trip to Tigers Game

6-year-old Nate Stark's Father's Day essay won his family four tickets to an upcoming Detroit Tigers game from F.A.O. Jewelers.

Playing Legos and giving “snuggles and hugs” are just a few of the qualifications to become the “World’s Greatest Dad,” according to 6-year-old Nate Stark.

Proudly displaying his winning essay on why his dad "rocks", the soon-to-be first grader was full of giggles and grins on Thursday as he accepted his award from F.A.O. Jewelers in Brighton.

For the second year in a row, the local jewelry store, with locations in Brighton and Hartland, sponsored a Father’s Day essay contest for a chance to win four tickets to a Detroit Tigers game.

The prize was a big incentive for the small baseball fan who explained with a big sigh how he hadn’t “been to a game in days.”

While the family was excited for their day at Comerica Park, dad Dan Stark said having his son enter into the contest was the real honor.

“Very proud of him,” Stark said. “I had no idea, it was all a big surprise.”

Nate and his dad, along with mom, Kathy and older sister Ellie will all have the chance to watch the Tigers in action during an upcoming Friday night game- chosen by the family so they could enjoy the fireworks after.

And young Nate already has plans to bring his glove, hoping to catch his first fly ball by his favorite Tiger, Miguel Cabrera.
