Viewfinder: Eggstravaganza is Hoppin’ Good Time

SELCRA Easter event provides plenty of fun and a visit with the Easter Bunny for area kids.

As Carly Miller and Jessica Kilpatrick of SELCRA announced, “Is everybody ready for the egg hunt?” each group of around 30 excited children yelled, “YEAH!!!” in reply.

And with that, the hunt began in earnest.

Kids darted everywhere in a room filled with many colored eggs at Mt. Brighton Ski Area, trying to collect as many as possible for their baskets during the Eggstravaganza on Saturday.

Later, kids lined up at tables for face painting, games and coloring, ran by students from Brighton High School.

Jack’s Custard of Brighton provided free cones, while the Brighton Area Fire Department provided photo opportunities with its big red fire truck.

Evan Hill, of the Brighton Area Fire Department, who was born and raised in Hartland and graduated from Hartland High, was happy with helping the kids have a good time. “We’ve had some great photographic memories of the children on Engine 31,” he said.

Salsarita’s Restaurant and Sylvan Learning of Brighton also had booths at the event on Saturday.

TSS Photography of Brighton and Whitmore Lake set up a studio for photos with the Easter Bunny, who was played by Aaron Wilson, of Brighton.

One of the TSS photographers, Yvonne Simpson, of Brighton, was enthusiastic about the event and her part in it.

“It’s adorable – I think it’s precious," she said. " I love it."

Maddie Vachow, 8, of Brighton was thrilled to be a part of the festivities. “I like it! This is our second one,” she said, speaking of her family.

The Urbain family of Brighton also returned this year along with a new addition, 10-month-old Holland.

“We brought the older two last year and they had fun,” Alicia Urbain said.

SELCRA Director Derek Smith was happy with the turnout, despite the weather. “I think people weren’t sure with the weather if it would be going on but it looks like a pretty good turnout so far,” he said.
