Brighton, Cromaine Libraries: Demand for 'Fifty Shades of Grey' is High

Apparently a lot of people do want to read the book, according to Ed Rutkowski, the assistant director of the . Rutkowski said that as of Friday afternoon there are 70 holds on the book.

Ceci Marlow, director of the Cromaine District Library in Hartland said there are currently 60 holds for all versions of the book, including print, audio and e-book.

Marlow also said that Fifty Shades of Grey was also the first e-book purchased by the library because of customer request.

Fifty Shades of Grey is a racy and controversial novel that tops the New York Times paperback trade fiction bestsellers list. It's also part of a trilogy that includes Fifty Shades Darker and Fifty Shades Freed. All of the books are written by E.L. James.

It has become a hit with book clubs, Twilight fans and even patrons at the Brighton and Cromaine libraries.

Rutkowski said there were holds on the book after just one week of being on the library's shelves. The Brighton District Library currently has four copies, but six more have been ordered.

"Our practice is to have one copy per five holds," Marlow said. "So we currently have two on order," she said. "We respond to what the community asks for and it may not make everyone happy."
