1. The weather

Today will be cloudy, with a 60 percent chance of rain and a high near 56 degrees, according to the National Weather Service. Wind gusts could reach as high as 30 miles per hour. Isolated showers will continue into tonight, with a low around 43 degrees.

2. Gasoline prices

Here's a quick survey of the lowest per-gallon prices for regular gasoline in the Brighton area as of Thursday night, according to DetroitGasPrices.com via GasBuddy.com:

  • , 6700 Whitmore Lake Rd.: $3.31
  • , 5756 Whitmore Lake Rd.: $3.39
  • , 3452 S. Old U.S. 23: $3.44

, 5530 Runyan Lake Rd. in Fenton, will host a fundraiser from 4:30-7 p.m. to support Hartland Garden Gate Montessori teacher Erin Mead, who was diagnosed with synovial cell sarcoma, a rare cancer. Suggested donations are $10 per person or $30 per family and will include a spaghetti dinner, salad and breadsticks. There will also be a bake ale, 50/50 raffle, door prizes, children's activities and a silent auction. All proceeds will go toward Mead's bills and cancer treatment.

The Livingston County Democrats will have their ice cream social and movie night at 7 p.m. at 10321 Grand River Rd. This month's movie will be a Detroit-based movie about the mob and its confidential history. Suggested donations are $10 a person or $15 for two.
