Good Morning Brighton

Check out the weather, fuel prices and more for Sept. 21, 2012.

Here are five tidbits of news and information we hope you'll find useful or entertaining.

Twice a week, Brighton Patch will post a snapshot of something from around Brighton. Readers are asked to guess the location of where the picture was taken. It will be like a virtual tour guide of Brighton.

1. The weather

Today will be partly sunny, with a 50 percent chance of showers after 1 p.m., and a high near 68 degrees, according to the National Weather Service. Tonight will be mostly cloudy, with a 60 percent chance of night showers and a low around 45 degrees.

2. Gasoline prices

Here's a quick survey of the lowest per-gallon prices for regular gasoline in the Brighton area as of Thursday night, according to DetroitGasPrices.com via GasBuddy.com:

  • Costco, 6700 Whitmore Lake Rd: $3.99
  • Meijer, 8650 W Grand River Ave: $3.99
  • Sunoco, 602 W Grand River Ave: $3.99

3. Astronomy at the Beach

Kensington Metropark will host Astronomy at the Beach today from 6 p.m. to midnight. Hubble, Space Station and Beyond Special guest, NASA Astronaut Andrew J. Feustel, will speak about the Space Shuttle Endeavour's final mission,  the Hubble Telescope, the International Space Station, the new Orion and Dragon Spacecraft, and the future of manned space flight.  Telescopes will be set up for observations, and several astronomy clubs will present a variety of fun and informative programs.  This event is FREE with your $5 vehicle entry fee and takes place at Maple Beach, rain or shine.

4. Brighton Varsity Football Game

The Brighton Bulldogs will take on Milford at home today at 7 p.m.
