Brighton Bakery Expands Into 'Uptown-Chic' Boutique and Cafe

The new, expanded Kathleen's Cookies location in downtown Brighton is currently open for business.

Kathleen’s Cookies officially opened its new location at 139 E. Grand River, redesigning the space to create an upscale, "uptown-chic" bakery, boutique and café.

Expanding her business from her smaller retail location that was only able to accommodate a bakery, owner Kathleen McKay said her new space fits the vision of what she wants to offer her customers.

“With my design background, I had it in my head that I wanted to incorporate entertaining and serving and celebrating,” she said. “That’s what my hobby is, that’s what I’ve always done my whole life.”

Calling it a “lifestyle business” the new location is decorated with the signature Kathleen Cookies blue color on the walls and the boutique is filled with specialty items, “perfect for shower or birthday gifts,” according to McKay, as well as necessary items for the home.

Wanting to create a feeling of a “small village in Europe where you can stop by and meet your friends” McKay said that Kathleen’s Cookies will be a place where people can come and “celebrate the milestones" in their lives.

Although not serving yet, the café will eventually offer desserts and drinks such as coffee, tea and juices in a small seating area, as well as an outdoor patio when the weather warms, according to McKay.

With a calendar of events already planned for the summer months, Kathleen’s Cookies will also be participating in Downtown Brighton's Ladies Night on May 2 and will be offering regular cooking events such as pop-up bistros with Renee Chodkowski, a.k.a. the "Great Foodini."

Business hours for Kathleen's Cookies are Monday through Wednesday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Thursday and Friday, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturdays 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more information, call 810-588-4029.
