School Mascot Proposes to Art Teacher; South Lyon Teacher Suspended for Playing Song

There was plenty of news around Brighton this week.

Here is a look at the top five most interesting stories from the Fenton area this week.

1. Season 8 American Idol finalist Matt Giraud appeared at Salem High School to work with the Plymouth-Canton Educational Park choirs and perform for and answer questions by students in choir, band and orchestra classes, Plymouth-Canton Patch reported.

2. The School mascot proposed to an art teacher during an elementary school morning assembly, Rochester Patch reported.

3. The Family of Samir Mikha Hannawa, 49, a slain West Bloomfield father of seven, benefits from emergency relief fund, reported West Bloomfield Patch.

4. A South Lyon middle school teacher says she was suspended for three days for playing a song about being gay during her performing-arts class, Livingston Daily reported.

5. A car fire destroyed 18 storage units in Grand Blanc Township, reported the Flint Journal.
