A Brighton man denied in federal court Tuesday that he sexually abused children in Haiti, according to media reports.
Matthew Andrew Carter faces five counts of traveling from Florida to Haiti to engage in sexual activity with minors and one count of attempting child sex tourism, according to an article by the Associated Press in the Detroit Free Press.
Carter is on trial in Miami, where he was arrested in 2011 for the crimes.
According to the Free Press, Carter ran the Morning Star Center in Haiti, a missionary that provided food, clothing and education to families, from 1995-2011.
The article states that two residents testified earlier this month that Carter abused them as children.
The trial is ongoing in Miami.
