Crime Report: Heroin Discovered After Woman Attempts Theft from Hartland Township Grocery Store

On June 2, police say they found heroin in a woman's purse after being called to the  in Hartland Township for attempted retail fraud around 8 p.m.

The owner said he saw the woman putting cans of beer in her purse then approach the counter to buy a small item, according to the police report. The owner said he would not sell the woman anything until she paid for the beer, and when she tried to leave the store, he grabbed hold of her purse, the report said.

Police found the the 21-year-old White Lake woman running down M-59.

The owner said a man got out of a van and told him that he didn't know the woman was going to steal anything, and that he just wanted his belongings from her purse, the report said. The owner said he told the man he would have to wait for police to sort it out, but the man got into his van and left.

The purse contained four cans of Steel Reserve Beer and two cans of Poco Logo energy drinks, police said. Police also found a piece of paper with heroin inside it, a cigarette case with a syringe that contained heroin residue, a metal rod with "chore boy" (commonly used to smoke crack cocaine) and a string tourniquet.

Hand tools stolen

Tools were reported stolen sometime between May 30 and June 2 on the 5000 block of E. Grand River in Genoa Township, according to a police report.

The tools were left in the back of an open bed pickup truck with unlocked storage compartments.

A woman told police that the week before, someone next door was working on the roof using hand tools and that she and her boyfriend let the person borrow the same tools that were stolen, according to the report.

Items reported stolen include a blue air hose valued at $60; an air compressor valued at $300 and three nail guns valued at $1,000.

Golf clubs, balls stolen

On June 1, the Livingston County Sheriff's Department responded to an alarm at Fairway Golf in Hartland Township at 10:10 p.m.

According to a police report, the back door had been forced open with a large dent in the door, above the door knob. A storage closet containing tools was broken into, with the door knob laying on the floor. A yellow crow bar was found at the scene.

The owner told police that he did not want the scene dusted for prints, according to the report.

Items reported stolen include five Taylor Made R11S Drivers valued at $379 each; three Cobra 2L Encore Drivers valued at $320 each; two Ping G20 Drivers valued at $299 each; 1 Ping G15 DRiver vauled at $159, three dozen Titleist NXT golf balls valued at $21 and three dozen Titleist Velocity golf balls also valued at $21.

Radar detector stolen

A Brighton Township man reported that between May 25 and May 29, a radar detector was stolen from his unlocked car on the block of 11000 Newman Rd, according to a police report.

The man told police that he had been having problems with someone egging his house, but did not know if the two incidents were related.

The radar detector was valued at $400.
