Oceola Township Woman Charged With Abuse and Torture of 3-Year-Old Step-Grandson

Police said the 3-year-old boy was admitted to the hospital last year with more than 60 different injuries.

After an extensive three month investigation, an Oceola Township woman was arrested on Friday on charges of 1st Degree Child Abuse and Torture, according to a press release sent out by Livingston County Sheriff's Department.

34-year-old Sara Rae Walters is being held at the Livingston County Jail on a $200,000 bond.

Police said that on Oct. 21, a 3-year-old boy was admitted to the University of Michigan Pediatric Intensive Care Unit and found to have more than 60 different injuries, including a subdural hematoma, a core body temp of 88 degrees and numerous other superficial lacerations and contusions.

The Livingston County Sheriff’s Department Detective Bureau revealed that the child suffered this abuse at the hands of Walters, his step-grandmother, at their Oceola Township home.

The charge of torture carries a term of life in prison.
