Police Brief: Woman Arrested for Prescription Fraud at Genoa Twp. Meijer

The following information was supplied by the Michigan State Police Brighton Post. It does not indicate a conviction.

A 29-year-old Howell woman was arrested Wednesday on charges of identity theft and obtaining drugs by false prescription, according to a press release from the Michigan State Police Brighton Post.

According to the report, staff at the Meijer Pharmacy in Genoa Township called police to report that someone had tried to pick up the prescription narcotic Tramadol, which was not called in by a doctor.

Tramaldo is a centrally acting opioid analgesic, used in treating moderate to severe pain.

Police were further aided by the 63-year-old man who had attempted to pick up the drug. He said he did not know the prescription was called in illegally and agreed to let police follow him when he dropped off the drug to the woman who had ordered them.

The woman is now staying in the Livingston County Jail awaiting arraignment.
