Top 5 Oddball Crime Reports of 2011

Here's a look at some quirky police stories in the Brighton area this past year.

Out of all the police stories you read about year-round, every now and then something unique - even quirky - will stand out from the rest.

These are some of the odd stories Brighton Patch has covered this past year.

  1. In February, Michigan State Troopers from the Brighton Post seized 97 marijuana plants, 77 pounds of processed marijuana and much more from a home in Iosco Township.
  2. Also in February, Michigan State Police asked for help locating the driver of a white Dodge Durango sport utility vehicle who reportedly drove through a large metal security gate on a private drive in Brighton Township.
  3. In June, two men in a fishing tournament on Woodland Lake in Brighton Township reported to Michigan State Police that a man shot paintballs at them from a house near the lake.
  4. In July, a Hartland man had his 14-foot stuffed alligator stolen from a pole barn in Deerfield Township and tracked the three men - all over 50 years old - who stole it and called the police.
  5. In September, a Brighton man reported his two homemade turtle traps missing from where he set them on Clark Lake in Brighton Township. The man used the traps to catch snapping turtles.
