Brighton Fire Employment Open House

Brighton Area Fire along with Howell Fire and Hartland Fire are hosting employment open houses at their respective locations for paid on-call firefighters from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 8.

The Brighton Area Fire Department is 20 firefighters short for its jurisdiction, according to Fire Marshal Michael O'Brian.

The open houses will inform those interested of the process in becoming a firefighter in Michigan. They will also be able to talk to firefighters and human resources personnel during the event.

A paid on-call firefighter's job includes station and vehicle maintenance and responding to calls.

Brighton's is at 615 W. Grand River Ave. in Brighton, while Hartland's is at the main fire station, located at 3205 Hartland Rd. in Hartland. Howell Fire has two open house locations: 2877 W. Coon Lake Rd. in Howell and 7304 Oak Grove in Cohoctah Township.

Training for certification will be provided; must be 18 years old, have a high school diploma or GED, reside in one of the department jurisdictions to apply.

The Fire Academy will begin in January at Brighton Area Fire Station 32, 1580 S. Old US 23.
