St. Patrick's Day Party Tent Coming to Downtown Brighton Bar

The Pound! Bar & Grill will have an outdoor tent behind the bar on Irish holiday this year.

The Pound! Bar & Grill plans to step up its St. Patrick's Day festivities this year with a party tent in the parking lot behind the bar.

Brighton City Council members unanimously approved the event application after some discussion during its board meeting on Feb. 21.

Bar Owner Kevin Montagano said they were looking to provide more of an opportunity for people to come out and celebrate, since The Pound is limited on its occupancy.

The Pound plans to two parties: a DJ and dancing inside the bar and live music from bands the Duney Brothers and the Laurie Johnson Project inside the tent. The tent will also have a full service bar, with a small dancing area.

In addition there will be food, drink and green beer specials all day.

"Last St. Patrick's Day was great - I know it was the perfect storm weather-wise and everything, 70 degrees and sunny - but nobody's doing it down here so we figured what the heck, let's bring the party of St. Patrick's Day down here to Brighton," Montagano said.

Montagano said he's not sure if The Pound will charge an admission fee yet, and that the fine details still needed to be worked out.

The Pound with its party tent will open on March 17 at 9 a.m. and close at 2 a.m. on March 18.

In the event application, Mantagano plans to have at least four security personnel in the tent at all times, checking identification and monitoring entrances.

City Council member Claudia Roblee had some concerns about security in an outside tent, but Brighton Police Chief Tom Wightman said the four security people were a minimum and that there would be more security staff on site.

In addition, Wightman said the Brighton Police Department will have extra patrols out on St. Patrick's Day.

Montagano said he hopes to make this an annual event.
