5 Things on Brighton Area Schools Agenda
The Brighton Area Schools Board of Education will hold a meeting on Monday, July 29 at 7 p.m. Here are five highlights from the agenda that are scheduled to be discussed.
2. Deficit Elimination Plan, June 2013: Brighton Area Schools’ deficit elimination plan was approved by the Department of Education in November of 2011. The school district is required to file a monthly report showing the improving the financial health of the district.
- According to the report, as of June, 2013, Brighton Area Schools has 3,825 firm Shared Services commitments.
3. Staff Resignation: Lisa Giammalva, currently a Grade 2 teacher at Hawkins Elementary with 15 years of service to the district, submitted her resignation to the district.

4. New Hires: Two new staff hires will be recommended for hire due to vacancies due to staff retirement or resignations.
- Colleen Kartheiser 1.0 French Teacher Brighton High School
- Rocky Roberts 1.0 Auto Tech Teacher Brighton High School
5. Staff Layoffs: As part of the District Deficit Reduction, the board will be considering the reduction of Para Professionals based on student enrollment and needs.
