Brighton School Board Votes to Recall 1 Administrative Position

Maltby Intermediate Assistant Principal Jeff Eisele will be returning for the 2013-14 school year.

The Brighton School Board voted unanimously to recall one administrative position during Monday night’s school board meeting.

Jeff Eisele, assistant principal for Maltby Intermediate School, who was previously laid off in April due to budget cuts, will return for the 2013-14 school year.

Already beyond the goal for the shared service number in the district’s deficit plan, Superintendent Greg Gray addressed the board requesting Eisle's return to help keep the focus on academics and reduce the “thin” feeling at central office and the administrative level.

"We talked from the very beginning that if we hit our marks, we would ask to bring that particular position back,” Gray said. “We have hit our marks—they are committed, they are not theoretical.”

In a building with more than 1,000 students where other support staff positions have been eliminated, Gray told that board that "this is a position that needs to be returned."

As for the financial implications, expressing confidence in the district's budget, Gray said that reinstating the one administrative position would just decrease the "cushion" they were working with and that currently the only "hole" in the budget was the sale of Lindbom Elementary.

"So, if throughout the school year we sell Lindbom or if we generate 287 more FTES (Full Time Equivalent students), Lindbom becomes a non-issue," he said.

Shared service numbers for all the buildings will be released at the next school board meeting.
