Brighton Schools Approves $12 Million Loan from State

Brighton Area Schools will be borrowing $12 million from the state of Michigan to meet summer payroll and other expenses during the next few months.

According to a report from WHMI, the board approved the loan on Monday and officials hope to have the loan paid in full by the end of September. 

The state is reportedly asking the district to eliminate their long-term deficit by the end of the 2013-14 fiscal year.

According to a recent report from Michigan Radio, of the 805 school district’s in the state of Michigan, there are currently 49 districts running deficits with Brighton Area Schools ranking in the top 15 with a $8.6 million projected deficit.
