Brighton Schools Ranks in Top 15 for Running Biggest Deficit

Of the 805 school district’s in the state of Michigan, there are currently 49 districts running deficits with Brighton Area Schools ranking in the top 15, according to a report from Michigan Radio.

Ranked at number 11, the report states that Brighton Schools has an $8.6 million projected deficit with a 14.33 percent projected revenue.

Recently, Brighton Schools announced plans to lay off ten more teachers, bringing the total number of staff lay-offs for the year to 21 to help save the district money.

The School District of the City of Inkster is ranked number one with a $15.9 million projected deficit.
