Photo Gallery: Shining Stars Receive Recognition from School Board
Students, athletes and administrators were awarded for for achievements at the Brighton Area Board of Education meeting Monday night.
More than 25 students and two administrators were recognized as "Shining Stars," by the Brighton Area Board of Education Monday night.
Shining Star awards are given to students and staff in recognition of achievement within the school district.
fifth grader Cassidy Chapman received a Shining Star award for selling 32 pizza kits - more than anybody else in the school - for The Little Ceasar campaign to raise funds to support the fifth grade camp program for families in financial need.

Maltby Principal Scott Brenner told board members that he just had a phone call from the Little Ceasar's pizza representative who told him that for the third year in a row, Maltby fifth graders were one of the top selling groups in the nation in the month of October.
"The kids know going into it, any kits they sell over 17 goes into our camp scholarship fund," Brenner said. "We had over 15 families this year that needed help with the camp fees. And each year we like to honor our top seller. Cassidy Chapman sold 32 pizza kits and raised over $100 for the camp scholarship fund."

Brenner, along with Maltby Assistant Principal Jeff Eisele, also received Shining Star awards for being true leaders who show compassion, support and know their students, according to the district.
